When I last checked, you could not find a larger amp-rated fuse than 140 for the Taco fuse box. You will need to increase the wire gauge from the alternator to the fuse box. Or, do what I did, run this alt wire to a junction connector; it splits one wire to the fuse box and another wire directly to the battery, adding a 200-amp fuse to that wire.

Any chance you got a picture of that set up?

The pics look like a jumble of wires going every which way, but here are some.

Left pic shows my alternator wire; it snakes to the distribution block, seen in the middle pic. ( I replaced the OEM alt wire with 1/0 AWG wire, or is that 1 AWG?
    I don't remember.)
At the bottom of the distribution block is the wire from the alternator; the top wire snakes to a 200-amp fuse,
seen in the right pic. That wire goes to one of two solenoids (I have two batteries). From that same terminal on the solenoid is the
power wire going to the battery, and another to the fuse block.

One of these days, I'm going to do a wiring schematic ... I did simpler wiring on daughter's 07 Corolla with a single battery. I put a 150 amp alternator to replace the 90-amp OEM alt. The alt wire goes to a distribution block. From there I run two 2 AWG gauge wires: one back to the oem harness that sends power to the fuse panel. The other wire goes to a 150-fuse, then on to the battery.

Thanks man. I got a good idea of how I will wire everything in the future. Appreciate it.

The high amp alternator I got for my Taco and the Corolla is not too far from your home town. BnRparts is a eBay vendor based in Los Angeles.

I only have about 20K miles on each, but so far so good. I did also get the voltage booster from HKB Electronics which tricks the alternator into increasing the voltage output. My Taco used to average 13.5 volts at idle; now it idles between 14.1 to 14.4 volts .

Hey man I had another question since you have a wire coming from the alternator to the distribution block and from there it goes straight to the battery. Did you remove the original charging cable from the fuse box to the battery or did you leave it as a back up?

One bit of the puzzle that needs to be clear is that whenever you install a higher output alternator, you MUST be sure the charge cable can handle the expected load. Demand determines the load, but if you have a high capacity alternator without upgraded cables and fuses, you are just one high draw event away from a problem. The fuse is matched to the cables and the expected load, not the alternator. All three items: alternator, cables, and fuses have to be sized and matched for the expected load. Anyone who does not clearly understand this, should get a professional to help them. Getting it wrong could result in a meltdown or fire.

Yes, I replaced the fuse box to battery cable with 2 gauge. I guesstimated the OEM cable is about 4.5 gauge based on the wire thickness. You can see my thread about it here, https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-box-battery-wire-replacement-upgrade.420450/

I plan on using 0 or 2 Gauge
