Well, actually it seems slightly faster (reduced back pressure?) - maybe I'm imagining it...but I'm not imagining the awful and extremely loud aftermarket exhaust sound in the cab.

Anyone parting out a 2nd gen 4.0L taco and have a spare catalytic converter?

Ha. Didn’t even get the good cat. Sensor may still work without tripping a CEL. Throw in a decent car there, from an exhaust shop, done. Sensors don’t read that cat anyway.

Wow, didn’t know I was actually lucky...the check engine light still came on though. I called Napa and O’Riley they both want between $4-500 for a cat. The local exhaust shop wants $400, install included. Anyone know of a good online source? If I can get the rusty flanges apart I’ll just weld it on myself.

Just get an off the shelf cat which is made for our trucks and get it welded in there. Hopefully you are not based out of CA otherwise they might make a big deal at emissions inspection time, otherwise you are good. Those are secondaries and so their only function are to be "clean up cats." The primaries are the ones which are the big deal.

The pieces of shit are the ones buying the cats when they know it's stolen. Meth head brings in brand new cats, repeatedly. They know their stolen but buy them anyway. Those are the people that should be doxed.

Battery Sawzall......less than 3 minutes to zip thru the exhaust pipe. Off to the recyclers.....cash in hand.....find dealer....buy....set until next need.

Turn it in to the Police, file a report.

Then to your insurance. Should fall under Comp.

Quite common here. Because the value doesn’t meet the minimum the cops won’t do a thing. Receiving stolen property is a crime but you have to prove the buyer knows it’s stolen.

End result is no downside for thieves.

They are sold for the valuable metals inside. Basically melted down.

Don’t know where you are at but in California stealing catalytic converters happens all the time, it’s a common occurrence. The thieves don’t want the cat , they want the precious metals inside the converters. Platinum, palladium and rhodium are rare precious metals found in tiny quantities in the cat converters. A thief gets several converters and it’s worth a lot of $$$.
It’s easy for a thief to steal a cat from vehicles that have higher ground clearance like trucks and 4x4’s. Also all Toyota and Honda’s are the most frequently stolen converters. It only takes 1 to 2 minutes to steal them in most cases. They sell them to junk/scrap yards/recyclers for between $50 to $200 each.
There are anti theft devices and various ways to prevent theft. If you park outside rather in a garage it is worth the $$$ to have it welded to the frame or one of the other ways to prevent theft.
