Subwoofer(S) in a 2021 Access Cab

Has anyone on here installed a subwoofer or 2 in their Access Cab? I'm going to install one in mine once I get it, and if someone else has, I'd like to see what they did and where they put it.

There is one posted around here but it replaces the trim piece between the rear seats, is quite big, and doesn't look very nice.

I'm not sure why someone hasn't made a thin one for under the passenger seat, but there seems to be a good amount of space there.

 

Not the same truck but on my old 99 ford ranger access cab . I put the two seats down threw my subwoofer box on top of it so the 2 10” subs faced up and added a metal bracket that mounted to the back wall to keep it secured . Worked great .downside I lost the space . I didn’t care sounded great .

 

For any decent low end you need at least .75 - 1 cubic foot of airspace. Most "under seat" subwoofers are anemic at best. Under seat rarely works unless you are good with making a cabinet that sits below the truck, and then venting the output through a hole in the floor. Most people feel uncomfortable about a hole that big, so the normal thing to do is just to sacrifice one side of the rear area at least for a single 10" woofer to start with.

 

I hear you, but anything would help over just the door speakers.

On my side of things, I use the rear. Either loaded with stuff on many occasions, including the middle gap, or hauling the fam.

So, I'm most likely SOL on a sub.

 

I've got an idea for one that won't be thrown together like it sounds like the one you're talking about is.

 

Your best bet then would be to heavily sound dampen the doors. Use something like the Noico material on the entire outer skin (sheet metal that is the outside of the truck) and then cover the entire inner skin so it is airtight except for where the panel clips go through. An upgraded speaker set for the front with a 6x9 woofer in each door and then a small coaxial speaker up in the dash would be next. Then finish it off with a 4 channel amplifier that will have a built in crossover in it. Run the doors on a low pass setting up to say 400 hz and then high pass the dash speakers at a similar frequency. It won't play rap or electronic at high volumes, but it will be 10x better than stock!

The other way would be to just add a small 10" enclosure that sits in the rear, and take it out when you need that last bit of space. Just protect the wires from touching each other when not in use.

I am planning on the sound mat now. I'm not sure how enthusiastic I will get, but I will get enough.

With some recent mods and my current tune, I've been enjoying the sound of the engine more. Covering the back wall and outer skins might tide me over?

I had heard an insulated door recently and it was pretty damn nice.

 

There is none behind the AC seat backs. It is essentially a padded wall panel.

OEM audio+ is the only access cab sub enclosure I'm aware of. This was probably the one mentioned, though I wouldnt call it thrown together. Seems like the best solution for most while retaining both seats and most space

 

Yes, not a lot of possible location{s}/room to put sub in the AC. So I have active (powered, self-amplified) sub under driver seat. Kenwood, fits and sounds perfect.

I'm gonna build something similar to the JL Audio set up.
I'll also be replacing the head unit, using a 4 channel and a mono subwoofer amp, a component set for the front, and I haven't decided on weather or not I'm just gonna do a midbass in the rear doors or a coaxial.

 

Not sure about the passenger seat .. After putting seat covers on new 2020, I found there was a lot more room underneath the driver's seat. Even at that.. There's not a whole lot of room under either. I was thinking about getting a sub to go under the drivers seat, but then thought better. Even at a reputable stereo shop, the thought of some 19 year-old 'Stereo Jockey' tearing half the insides up and slicing and dicing wires ... Yeah... Well, not my brand new rig.
I will say that I find the factory stereo completely more-than-acceptable. And since I listen to classic rock/country .. The bass is fine.
I'm not listening to rap where I need the bass to start cracking window glass.
I have read a few times from other posts that have replaced the 6x9's in the doors with some Kicker replacements and they seem to be more than happy with those, so I might just go that route and be happy.

 

I'm spending money on that too.
You see, I'm not only a car guy getting into my first 4x4, I'm also an audiophile. I love music, and it has to sound good. So I'll be spending money on some good components in the front, the sub in the rear, and whatever I decide to do with the rear doors. I already have the 2 amps I'll need, and I've got the head unit picked out that I plan on using.

I can't be happy with that.

 

I got the AC, because I wanted the 6' bed and I'm not hauling people around. I wanted the one where the back is just bare with the flat panel on the back of the cab, but it was the dealer saying 'We can order it, but can't say for sure when it'll get here ... If ever' thing, so I bought one that has the jump-seats. No adult could sit back there for more than about 10 minutes before it became torture. (Think 'fetal position') There's not a lot of room back there. On the other hand, the jump-seats do fold up out of the way pretty decently.
If the seats were removed, or if it was just the blank panel in the back, you could easily fit, say, a 10" sub-woofer box on either/both sides and still have room to throw gym/duffel bags/etc back there. You can fit about 1/2 dozen grocery bags back there pretty easy. Other than that, there's not that much room.
