The 85 has like 300k on it and it gets conventional 5W30.

I would like to give it Rotella but I'm worried about the detergents and seal additives

Like butyl rope? I have no idea honestly. It’s a Volvo car engine designed in the late 60’s. Nothing is really leaking oil wise. The cork gaskets amaze me, zero oil seepage from the valve cover.

 

Fair. I spent most of my teen years listening to old tapes, so I know the old shit haha

 

You can get either 5w40 or 15w40 in Rotella T6. Both blue bottles. 15w40 has some yellow on the label.

 

no its straight up rope with graphite in it. thats the mercedes. rubber seals in other places, sealant in others. no cork ive seen

 

We’ve always ran Synthetic 5W30 for the truck since it was new. What’s the benefit of the Rotella stuff?

Only cork gasket in the whole engine is the valve cover. It’s bone dry. There’s not many seals on it. The main ones are the valve cover, head gasket, and exhaust manifold. That’s literally it.

Better detergents and better wear additives since it's mean for heavy duty diesel engines that would shear down regular engine oil

 

It's good stuff that's cheaper than most synthetics. All my oil tests have always come back positive on it and Blackstone keeps telling me to run the oil change intervals longer and longer cause the additive package is still strong and there hasn't been a lot of shearing of the oil moluculicles.
