My son uses one on his Tacoma hauling a fully loaded truck and a 20ft camping trailer says he never has any issues and he hauls over the Appalachian mts.

So this is a much better and clearer explanation than what I had read elsewhere. Nicely done :101010:

Exhaust valve failure requiring new head is what the dealer told me. They have had my truck for 6 days now and today said they were still waiting on parts.

So after reading many threads, seems like wind resistance may be bigger issue than weight. If I got a pop up around 2000lbs would I need ect on, and drive in S ? And can you stay in overdrive and still use ECT ? (Automatic trans)

Idk, i've got a 5x10 aluma utility trailer i make short trips with every now, and then plus i plan to use it for much long trips for my snowmobile now. I don't find it a problem at all with the tacoma i have. When hauling my 2k lb boat, you know its there.

S just refers to "shift mode" (transmission in D, then move it over to the left)

The number refers to what gear you want to limit the shifting to. For example, S4 means the truck will use gears 1-4, which is recommended for towing (4 being the 1:1 drive gear, 5 and 6 being your overdrive gears)

Note: S mode defaults to S4 when you "shift" over to engage it. Keeps trailer work simple

You can but if you get any kind of incline or large crosswinds I would leave it in S4. Good thing is while in S mode you can just click the shifter forward/back to set the gear limiter.

    Ouch.
Are you getting the 3.5l or 2.7l ecoboost?
:anonymous:I have the 2.7l and let me tell you... head and shoulders above the Tacoma with regards to power feel, comfort and overall fuel economy.

However I miss some features of my Tacoma can’t think of any right now other than seat width, and maybe the fact that this forum is so much better than the Ford ones.

I tow a Coleman west lake pop up in S4. I see no real reason to go to fifth gear - unless you want to speed above 65 mph. 235/85 16 tires.

I'd buy the twin turbo before I'd buy a Ford.

Getting 2.7 for MPG and power. Cant be any less reliable than my current tacoma so I figured might as well get more room, power. I still love tacomas also.

I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. I have not had a single issue with mine I have 50,000 miles after two years. Very quiet cabin and I get 24+ mpg. I have the 3.55 rear end with the electronic locker.

To those anti-Ford folks. Just because it’s different doesn’t mean it’s bad. I’ve owned every brand of truck other than Nissan and everyone one of them has had some quirks. What works for me now is my Ford. My Tacoma suited me well when I had it. :amen:

Your gearing is "higher" so to make power, it'll downshift more often. You'd only get "less rev" if you're driving downhill or on flat ground and aren't above 70 mph (give or take)

Our local Sheriffs department has many 4x4 2.7 F150s. Many with almost 100000 miles of hard abuse and none have had as many issues as my Tacoma in 32000 miles

Do you work for motor pool for your local sheriff's department? As a DOT guy I see a lot of police vehicles worked on, I'm going to tell you right now they absolutely have issues.
