Man, I looked at a brisket yesterday, but at 60 bucks I passed and picked up a pork butt and chuck roast instead.

Is it just me or has the popularization of smoking and slow cooking driven the cost of these cuts up a lot higher than they use to be.

Well, nothing is ever on sale in Greenwood. I need a Costco membership and motivation to drive to Greenville a couple times a month to use it. Or just buy half a beef.

the flat was a little dry, but not terrible. I ended up clicking it up to 300F for the last two hours. It wasn’t moving up in temp as quick as I needed it to

Still seems like what use to be regarded as a poor man's cut or cast aside is just soooooo expensive these days (rona increases not withstanding).

You are correct. I can remember paying 66 cents lb for case briskets. But due to the popularity of pellet smokers and more competitions along with social media prices have gone up. The covid crap drove them up also but since is back down. I get prime case briskets for around $1.69 lb now. I can live with this.

I could be contributing to the price hikes since I only started smoking meats since I have been on TW and seen people posting pictures of tasty meat treats. I don't have a pellet smoker, though. Only charcoal and wood love.

I just want some good roasts to cook and they are ridiculous. I am not a smoker aficionado, I just cook a whole hog every now and again.

We love good ole chuckies also. Have ya done a 2hr smoke on one then place in the crockpot for a Mississippi roast?

Nah. I live in an apartment now so everything is crockpot. But I'll use a dab of liquid smoke sometimes. I never really was into the whole smoking thing. Sounds like it'd be pretty good though to get that char and smoke flavor
