In my opinion, breather connector broke before OP got stuck in sand while he was playing in sand. When he got stuck, wheels spinning pushed sand into the actuator and when he switched into 4wd low it got jammed and got disabled. So it wasn't so much as "crawl broke my truck", it was "I ripped the connecter while off-roading and sand got into the actuator through the broken line".

And they do well on the street and trails. The don't do well when the truck is sumped up to the frame in sand. Might as well be rock as sand is pretty much a solid when it is contained.

Talking about packing stuff under the truck, I was on a slick clay covered road and had to keep momentum to get out, so I was pounding through to make progress. Well hell, my steel plates filled up past the oil pan with clay and when I got home, it was like brownies overfilling a baking pan- they were so heavy I had to just drop them and back the truck out. It left an imprint of the engine and tranny bottom in the clay, too. I didn’t realize the breather tube was encased, but luckily it didn't get yanked off or broken when I dropped the pans.

I actually agree with both of you to an extent.

If you do dumb shit with your truck and push it beyond its design limits, expect to be writing a check when things go south.

On the other hand, you can’t market a truck as the second coming in off road capability, then wash your hands of all responsibility when something that shouldn’t break does, just because someone took it off pavement.

Common sense. It goes both ways. . .

Except you can market shit to do things it shouldn't do.
Pay attention to commercials for pretty much everything... toys, vehicles, flex seal and flex tape lol. This has been a marketing ploy since the Crusades.

Taking something "off road" is almost undefinable. A nice two track level path with no rocks or mud is off road. So is Rubicon trail. So is the Sahara Desert. So is the grass parking lot at a kids soccer game.
So when Toyota, or Jeep or anyone else advertises "off road" it could mean any of the above.
Where the gray area is is what they "show" the vehicles doing. High speed desert, rock crawling etc does not mean you SHOULD do it, only, in certain situations like professional drivers, spotters or additional mods it COULD do it. When you buy the truck common sense should prevail and you should only do what you can afford... that's you, not Toyota.
What's the difference between what this OP did, balls deep stuck in wet sand, or sliding into a rock wall on a trail? The answer is no difference... you put the vehicle in that position, not Toyota, so you are responsible.

It's a harsh and sometimes expensive life lesson that very seldom happens to older people because they learned that lesson years ago.
My Tundra has the Off Road package. Do I think it added any capability from a stock Tundra? Um, no. I got some shocks, sway bar and stickers.
Don't fall for the hype lol.

And again, it goes both ways. They can’t then turn around and void the warranty on something just because you weren’t on pavement when it happened, when they themselves slapped an “Off-Road” decal and name on the truck and marketed it as such.

kind of like saying, I’m gonna sell you this dishwasher, but if you put a plate in it you void the warranty.

I agree with you, but in the OP's case it failed from impact.
Using your example, let's say your dishwasher had a key component mounted where your silverware goes and was unguarded. It will wash dishes all day long, but if you F up and hit the component with a knife then no more dishwashing.
Could Toyota or Maytag do a better job of design or guarding? Yep, but the operator needs to know what's going on too instead of blindly believing a commercial for going offroad or washing dishes. ;)

I was going to use the example of putting some jeans and a couple polo shirts in it to void the warranty but yours is even better.

This. OP broke his truck thanks to vacuum forces in wet sand. That's like blaming a 20000lbs load for breaking your truck because your truck has a hitch so it should be able to tow
