New here and after research I haven’t found a thread to help... I just bought an 02 last week, it’s been sitting for a year due to clutch issues. My lack of patience got the best of me so when I got home I jumped it off. First time i turned the switch it hit. I cycled the key on and off quite a few times and it finally started. It ran great once it got going. As I unhooked the jumper cables it died. It hasn’t started since. I installed a new battery and replaced the fuel pump today. After checking the fuses I found the 7.5 amp ignition fuse blown.

Every time I replace the fuse it blows not sure what’s causing the issue. I took the alternator off and had it tested and it passed. Any help is much appreciated.

I’ll add that the starter spins fine and I even unhooked the fuel pump and relays to see if that was the short. Thanks

The fuse opens as soon as it is installed ??

When you turn the ignition Switch??

Sitting for a year any Signs of Evil Rodents loving to chew wires .

The 7.5 amp ignition fuse supplies the EFI Relay which supplies The Circuit opening relay till you find your short no fuel pump.

That’s a good point about the mice or squirrels. The fuse is blowing in the start position. It only pops the fuse when you try to start.

I downloaded a wiring diagram last night and it looks like the start position or ignition 2 goes through that fuse all the way to the alternator. The valve cover has been leaking and the alternator was covered in oil which was suspicious.

Update: Fixed! It ended up being the starter relay. After chasing wires and unhooking the alternator I couldn’t keep a fuse from blowing. I even took the ignition switch apart to see if it was grounding out.

Lesson learned. No more jump starting my Tacoma.

Glad you found it was it the coil side or the contacts that failed??

I’m not sure yet haven’t tested it yet but I’m sure it stuck due to the multiple starts with the jumper cables. As soon as I replaced the relay it immediately started.

I am new as well and am experiencing a similar problem. However my 7.5 ign fuse under the dash blows immediately weather the key is on or off. My truck is a 1995 3rz 5 speed. Fired up the night before for a few seconds after full rebuild and I used a jump box with a junk battery. New battery today and just now experiencing this problem. My fuse is a short to ground I began unplugging components using a test light until it went away. I unplugged an airbag module under the dash right in front of the shifters and got my spark back, no more popping the fuse. Bit now no fuel pressure. If I plug the module back in it pops the fuse again and I still have no fuel pressure
