OME Dakar mediums + extra leaf same as heavy's?

Can't really find a straight answer on this. I'm wondering if the OME Dakar EL095R (Medium pack) + EL46XL (Add-a-leaf) is the same as the Dakar Heavy's (EL096R)?

According to Bilstein, the

$77 D29XL Leaf Spring

D29XL gives an extra 1.5in lift on top of the Dakar lift (for gen 3's at least). The EL46XL will increase spring height by 15mm and increases the spring rate by 15%, which comes out to around a little over a 1/2in lift.

D29xl is for the old style dakars. The EL46XL is for the new version. "New" is relative since they've been around a year or two now.


OP, you are correct. And if you really wanted, you could add a second AAL to make an even stronger pack. That's what I did when I had a lot of weight. Since then, I've removed both AAL and one of the overload leafs. Dakars are nice that you can change them up depending on if your build changes.

 

The el46xls gave my mediums over 1 inch of extra lift.

 

Did you have to extend your brake lines by chance?

 

At the time I put the aal in the medium dakkars I didn't need extended brakes lines due to the rear shocks I was running. But with the shicks Im currently running i i need to get the brakes lines. Just haven't got around to doing so.

 

Would adding another leaf to the heavies be overkill if I haven't exceeded the weight limit of the heavies? Fully loaded (500-600lbs) I'm still slightly sagging in the back and that's only with a 2in lift in the front. I have 33in tires coming and I'm worried I'll need more lift in the front to clear the tire and then I'll really be sagging in the back

Whats my rear articulation gonna be like with a pack that strong? Am I trading articulation for lift at that point?

 

Depends on how heavy your truck is. If you are adding the leafs just to get height but have a lighter truck you will have a pretty stiff ride. If its heavy it will work okay. Dakars are ok leafs in general but you can get a full 12" out of them depending on the shocks. For most trucks running them, the limitation is the shock, not the leaf pack.

 

No. I ran that pack before and it flexed fine. As long as your truck is heavy and actually needs the leafs.

I'm installing the el46xls on my mediums right now.
Was I supposed to get an additional steel shim/plate for in between the springs?
If no, do I put the existing shim below or above the el46xl in the pack?

 

What I did was take the shims from my stock leafs and put them in there. I’d like to know too because I’m adding another leaf and I think I’m out of shims

 

I think I'll do the same! I did just get done assembling them without the shim though... I'll call ARB on Monday and update what they say is proper.

 

The only thing is that they are a different length from the dakar ones. Hasn't caused me any issue though and I have thousands of miles on mine

I don't see it being an issue either.
I do wish I would have put the shorter ones under the top spring though.
