It's nice to FINALLY have a flip key that was actually intended for Toyota trucks. I've been buying flip keys that have the silly "car trunk open" button on them which makes no sense for a truck (I mean, if they had a programable button to pop open the tailgate... maybe?). To me, the price was a bit more than I thought it was going to be but I'd gladly spend it to have a a flip key that was not only designed around the factory key for our trucks but also appears to be of high quality and some serious thoughtful engineering. Oh, and it comes in matching colors of our paint schemes? I mean, for a flip key fob, it doesn't get more custom than MESO's.

Now of course, I'm anxiously waiting for it to hit my door!!! Luckily I have another flip key that I already had the blade cut. Looking at your video, it looks like I may be able to re-use this one in your design.

Anyways, thanks a ton for finishing this for all of us especially during these weird times. These little things go an extra long way these days. I'll post up a review comparing MESO's version to the other two I have used.

I've converted to some other flip keys and the local keyshops actually prefer just the blade. Their machines can grab it a bit better and you don't risk damaging the fob. Taking the key blade out should be super simple as it's just a single set screw.

Of course, I'm sure they can do it with the fob as well. I just heard a few cases of people getting bad cuts (not talking about MESO fobs specifically) because of the awkward shape of fobs in general and the difficulty of grabbing them on the machine.

    Just my .02 cents.

Love that look but man... you must have some great vision and steady hands/patience to be able to pull this off! If you do, please post up with pics!

A small group of us were messing with flip keys when the 2016's dropped. Here's the thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/flip-key-for-2016-taco.469986/

I wanted to try my best to preserve the stock key as much as possible to use it as a hidden spare. What worked best for me was using a dremel (with a few milling bits) and then using a small screw driver to pry it out. The dremel allows you to precisely trim the area where the transponder is "buried". So, if you have a Dremel, this would be the time to use it!

Also, my apologies for multiple posts, I'm just getting caught up and obviously super stoked. One other tip... in MESO's video, he recommends using super glue to hold the chip in place. If you use too much and ever want to change you key out (say something breaks or whatever), you'll be using the 'ol Dremel again. What's worked well for me with other key fobs is to shim the transponder with something like thin cardboard or foam. Keeps it in place and still makes it easy to remove the transponder if you ever need to move the guts into a new MESO key fob down the line.

Ok, I think I'm done with posts for now but still catching up so stay tuned. Lol.

I bought a used OEM key off ebay for $30. I reprogrammed the fob and the transponder using Techstream because I didn't want to destroy one of my original keys. Now I'm just waiting on my flip fob from Meso to show so I can get the blank cut and swap over my parts from my Ebay key. These trucks can have up to 6 keys programmed to them.

@MESO now that the flips are on the market, when are you restocking the minimalist key fob? Waiting on that to finish my order!

Yes this week I’m planning on a big restock. Turn signals, minimalist, coin buckets, chrome deletes, vent rings, etc

Once the key fob is setup, can you just take it to a local key machine to cut it? I was thinking about going to Ace hardware or something. Mostly wondering if I need a locksmith or toyota dealer to do it properly.

I'd Yelp for a local automobile locksmith. Many of them are mobile and will come to you. I feel they'll be better working with car key fobs vs. a hardware store that's more used to just house keys.

Agreed... go with a local key shop instead of a hardware store. I’ve had key cuts gone bad at hardware stores. Key shops will have the best equipment and know-how for sure.

@MESO, out of curiosity, how quickly did the flip fobs sell out? Also, any eta when you’ll have more in stock? Just curious.

@MESO, will there be a video on how to reset the spring in case one might need to disassemble their fob? Or will this not be necessary once assembled.

Forgot to mention that I was at Home Depot earlier and inquired about bringing an automotive key blank to be cut. Store associate informed me that the head office no longer does outside key cutting.
