What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Where did you source the D-rings?

 

I know you guys like to stick with certain vendors, but just for reference, the push to start version Start-X remote starter I bought on Amazon and installed a week or so ago required no wire snipping. Completely plug and play. I did not need a cellular app connected remote starter (or associated fees) so I went the cheap route. Gotta say I’m happy with it. Hit the lock button on the OEM remote 3 times and it starts right up.

 

Just threw on some 265/75/16 Falken Wildpeaks this weekend in time for a little snow storm we got in Utah. Next up is a shell that’s coming in a few weeks

 

Where did you buy your raptor lights from? Did they snap right in?

 

That’s an easy one. I got mine preinstalled from Toyota for the low, low price of $40,000.00.
(They are stock, sorry for the smart ass comment).

 

I used Dodge/Chrysler part number 05170492AA. (https://www.moparpartsoverstock.com/p/__/RING-RING-RETAINER/6674633/05170492AA.html) Got them from a dealership in N. TX just because the shipping would be faster to me in S. TX, but there were quite a few options to choose from all around the same price.

 

@Ruminator as a 911 dispatcher, 95% of my 911 calls come from cell phones. Saying that, the we still get landline 911 calls and they usually have older callers. Keyword: usually. There have been some children on those lines (with legit calls). But again, most come from cell phones.

What I was amazed at was this past July, I took a small road trip down in the Mississippi Delta and stayed at a hotel in Vicksburg (see: Civil War history). And there were still phones in the room with the cost to make long distance phone calls. And I guess phones might be mandatory in the hotel industry as someone might call 911 from that before thinking of a cell phone. But the rates for long distance phone call was like $1.50 a minute. Older generation might still do that, but the younger gens are gonna text or call from their cell phones.

 

You're right about cell towers. However, she's getting ready to move into a newer neighborhood and I doubt they even have land lines. The house is old enough to where it probably had landlines built into it. My sister's house is about 2 or 3 years old and it has ZERO traditional landlines going into it.

And you spoke of New Madrid: there have been commercials on out of Memphis advertising for the "Great Shakeout." Basically, talks about earthquake safety with small kids. If happens in my life time, I would be very surprised. However, we are overdue.

 

I don't doubt this, but I get a warm fuzzy having wires going from my house to the central office in the next town over where there's some nice, big submarine batteries in the basement powering the system in case of a widespread power outage. ...and those wires are associated with a particular phone number and address so there's no doubt where the call's coming from. I know it's ancient tech, but hey, if it works don't fix it.

Is your equipment able to obtain a location for a cell phone call (in the event the caller isn't able to state their location)? Last I heard (admittedly, some time ago), there were no standards which resulted in compatibility problems between the cell service companies and the dispatch systems.

Trying to locate a cellphone call also had height problems. You could narrow down the location for a call to a single building, but if that building was 10 stories tall, there was no way to tell what floor. Maybe that's been fixed.

Our ANI/ALI system is phase 2. So it can give an fairly good approximate location. It's not always 100%. Technology is great, but it has it's short comings. Saying that, I recently had a 911 open line and it was pinging near a retirement home and it was moving around in the yard. About 2 minutes of listening, it was then pinging around the county courthouse (approx. 1/4 to 1/2 mile away).

And then there is the problem of disconnected cell phone. That's basically a burner phone that has run out of time, but still has the ability to call 911. Those usually are owned by kids. My situation above is probably what I'm describing here.

 

Just a mention that there's a guy at work that collects unwanted cell phones for his wife that works for some anti-domestic-violence organization. They hand them out to (mostly) women in a battered-spouse situation so they have some way of calling for help via 911. The offending spouse may have control of any other form of communication.

 

The Gubmint will always know where you are. Even when you don't.

He was a funny guy, I remember he made a statement during his inauguration along the lines that government didn't solve problems, it was the problem - something to that effect anyway. I seem to remember that he once opened a meeting with the press with the line "Before I refuse to take any questions, I have a statement to make.."

 

That bed-stiffener is very interesting. Way to think outside the box!
