That looks like a 99 Highlander trim, I would snatch that up at that price in an instant, that hood alone is worth $800, the coils are the best coils to be had on the 3rd gen you could resell them for $200, the flares (the wider limited flares without the side body cladding) I've sold for $300.

That's big money right there, they don't know what they got!

And if it needs a frame I have one without rust for $600.

On closer inspection the grille is wrong for a 99 Highlander, this looks like a 01-02 sport package, still big money. You can strip it and make enough to fund your swap, they strip down super easy.

See them going way lower then that for the hood. Just hard to come by

I had a guy offer me $500 just for all thw scoop parts, then even an aftermarket hood costs $250.

    :notsure:

Yeah I've seen them lower, I mean I got my whole hood from a u-pull for $50 but yeah they're rare.

Well darn. I'm waiting on a fat wad of cash so I can go down this same road (only mine's a little longer since it doesn't stop with an engine swap). I do have an A340E sitting in the shed if you feel confident enough to tear it down and put an A340F tail shaft in it. I also have what is hopefully a rebuildable 3.4L engine that came out of Tim's T4R if you're interested. It has no compression on the #3 cylinder. I've moved on to other plans...

If I was more solid on the timeframe for my funding I would let you use the OGT for a donor vehicle, but at this point I'm not sure how I'm going to hack up the wiring harness. Won't need the engine harness, computer, or the gauge cluster, but I'd like to keep the wiring for the steering column intact, not to mention the climate controls and such.

Not sure he has enough wheel base for a divorced T-case and you can get 4.70:1 gears for the old passenger side drop Toyota gear driven T-case. Now, if AA has an adapter to adapt an A340E to the Toyota T-case then that's a different story.

So are you interested in the possibly rebuildable 3.4L and the A340E I have? I'll cut you a great deal on it. If it turns out to be a boat anchor, you don't have to pay me anything. If it's rebuildable then $300 for the engine and transmission. At worst you'd have a core for a salvage yard engine. I also have an engine hoist you can borrow.

I don't think so, at least not right away. I think having a complete running donor vehicle makes the swap much easier. I'm going to keep looking, heck I almost got one after one day of searching!

Thans for the offer on the hoist, may take you up on that!

A dana 300 transfer case (from an aw4) would be attached to the back of the a a340. With a teralow kit your low 4 becomes a 4:1 low gear. From what I've seen to attach an a 340e to a transfer case you only need the rear output shaft and the stock tail housing. No adapters needed. This seems to be the same for the old toyota gear tcase, new toyota chain tcase, or the Jeep tcase. Advance adapters does make an adapter for an atlas for the a340

I've seen the dana t-case on the Toyota transmission, works good and very strong.

I don't think I would do the Toyota V8 swap though. If I went the V8 route I would go LS, but that leads me down a path of 1tons axles that I dont want to take $$$$

This one is in Jacksonville $1999.00 229K 4x4 auto. I bet I could talk them down too, the custom duct tape on the bumper can't add value... I'm lazy and don't really want to drive that far.
    The search will continue.

Be aware there are two different A340 transmissions. The A340E is a 2WD transmission and has a longer output shaft and tail housing (the tail housing can be unbolted and you should be able to bolt a t-case to it except for the longer output shaft). The A340F is a 4WD transmission and has a shorter output shaft and no tail housing (since the t-case bolts to it). The A340F also has a bigger oil pan. The internals with the exception of the output shaft are the same. So basically, unless you have an adapter that takes into account the extra length of the output shaft, then you're not going to be able to just bolt up a T-case to it. You would need to run a divorced t-case setup which takes up more space. Either that or take the whole transmission apart to change the output shaft to a shorter 4WD output. The output shaft is the first thing to go in and the last thing to come out, so it's pretty much a PITA but a good opportunity to rebuild the transmission.

Timbo was saying something about there being an adapter to bolt a T-case to his 2nd Gen 2WD transmission, so there probably is something out there, but then I don't know if the 2nd Gens had A340s.

You're right, the adaptor from Marlin is for the A340F.

Yeah it's pretty much the 2nd gen 4cyl autos that have the a340e.

You are correct the 2wd one is longer and the 4wd one has 2 small holes for oiling.

Here's 3 output shafts I have. 2 are 2wd (one from a tundra with a slip joint and one from a sc400 with a bolt on rubber donut.) The 4wd shaft is from a 96 4runner.

    MVIMG_20200502_144511_1.jpg

Many people just cut the sc400 shaft down to size and drill a hold to oil the transfer case.

Taking apart the tranny to swap output shafts is the proper way to do it. If someone wanted a Jeep dana 300 transfer case they would use an output shaft from a cherokee aw4

    PXL_20201024_191048287.jpg

I accidentally had a clutch not seat properly when reassembling so I'm waiting for the $10 part to get my truck working again.

The right one is missing some teeth
    PXL_20201024_191124768.jpg

The oil pan was the bigger one on my original 2wd but now I have the smaller one with the v8. I do however have a faaaaaat ass cooler with a fan so I have plenty of cooling/extra fluid.

Idk if you can tell but I love the a340 platform lol
