Spent almost 30 years in book manufacturing. Mostly pressroom and prepress departments. Helped with running a big old offset sheetfed press. Straight black on white stuff, lots of high end text books and stuff. Layoffs became more and more often and for longer periods of time as the printing industry has died off. Spent almost 2 years working for a defense contractor building Bradley Fighting Vehicles which was one of my most fun jobs ever but that slowed down and I was once more dealing with layoffs. Parallel to all of this I began a part time job in the parts department of the Harley Davidson dealership where I'd bought my Buell and spent almost 16 years working 2 jobs mostly for the employee discount and the fun of working around bikes. Currently I'm the purchasing manager for a family owned hydraulic cylinder repair shop. We deal mostly in larger mobile crane type stuff. Our shop does industrial chrome plating and we have a full capacity machine shop so lots of little side projects happen here. I miss a lot of the hands on stuff but no longer beat myself up physically like when I was younger. Most of my work now is computer based locating parts, materials, and supplies to keep the shop running. Nice thing is the amount of free time I have to surf internet forums like this one and a few others I'm active on.

I'm a manufacturer of ultrapure water quality analytical instrumentation. Or as Bill Murray would say: "It's technical." :D Our primary market is Power Generation and I've been to nearly every nuclear plant in the country and most of the fossil plants as well. I used to average around 50K miles a year driving around the country, but these past two years, it's dropped off to about 35K miles.

I love Rivian I can’t wait until the release of the first two models. Any possibility of being hooked up with some Rivian swag? I’ve been trying to get some !
