Hi there, I just joined up today. I've got an Elantra at the moment, but I've been looking for a small truck for a little while now, trying to decide on what model, features, etc I'd like. After quite a bit of searching I've decided that I'm going to get the 4 cylinder regular cab Tacoma, 4x4 with a manual transmission.

There's one stupid little detail that really bugs me about the regular cab though. In the models I've test driven, there is no center armrest. It seems like a small thing, but I really can't stand not having something on my right side sort of "holding" me in.

I just stumbled across a page that gives the description of the 2011 Tacoma regular cab here: http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2011/toyota/tacoma/specifications/index.html. According to that page, the 2011 regular cab will have a center armrest (I assume one that folds up so you can seat your 3rd person). This would be great news for me, because it would really eliminate the only nagging thing that I don't like about the current model. Does anyone know if that information is likely to be correct? Thanks in advance.

Welcome .... do some research (which you have begun to do), educate yourself and ask a lot of questions .... and keep asking until you get the answer you want and you fully understand the answer.

There are minor, as well as major, differences between the different trims of Tacomas.

You would not having any regrets with whichever you choose.

From reading the 2011 Toyota.com Features & Specifications and PDF Brochure I only see the the buckets seats & console being offered in the Regular Cab 4WD Automatic. It seems the rest have the bench seat.

Thanks for the replies. Well if its a tradeoff I'll have to go for the bench seat I think. I'd like the ability to be able to fit a 3rd person in the middle in an emergency, but for the other 99% of the time I just want that armrest.

I guess what I'm hoping for is what I have in the back seat of my car now, a center seat that has a fold down console in the back of it for when you just have 2 people. I might just have to wait and see.

I heard rumor that there might be a 4 cyl automatic 4x4 in this model year too. Still probably go for the manual, personally.

They had a 60/40 type seat with a fold out arm rest in the 1st generation Tacoma's. The armrest was better on the 2001 - 2004's than the 1995 1/2 on that type of seat but always felt low to me.

As I said in my last post on this thread it's all there on the 2011 PDF Brochure at Toyota.com. It looks like they even dropped the Regular Cab PreRunner.

I love regular cabs and I gotta get another one soon! I miss it to dam much!

The 2005 through 2008 were available with a center console and manual transmission on the SR5 Trim only. They are harder to find but not impossible. The price to convert a bench to the console is about $1800 bucks from all Toyota Parts. Find a Junk yard with any 2005 up extended cab or quad cab manual trans 4x4 and those parts will bolt right in as well to your Regular cab Truck for about $300 or less for everything.

I wanted to put power windows and locks into my reg cab from the larger cab models, but the doors are different sizes than those with the power options, (door cards are different) so it would have been worthless to try.

The cruise control is just a plug and play switch on the wheel as well if you want to upgrade your regular cab. cost is $109 from sparks toyota for the parts. it takes about 15 min to put in, no skill required at all.

If you have regular cab questions, feel free to email me..... I know them up and down!

How the hell do you shift with that tall box on the seat? Do you hold your shift knob like you're turning the knob on a radio?

I can't see how I would be able to have anything taller than about 4" high there or it would be in my way.

Actually I looked at a bunch of those add-in consoles and almost ended up going with one. In the end, though, I ended up getting a great deal on the last 2010 extended cab truck on a local lot, right before the 2011's came in. I had wanted the regular cab for the size, but this one gives me the bucket seats, the ability to transport people in an emergency, the price was right, etc.

Looks good. Any tips on how you made it? I've been wanting to do one since I got the truck.

that box i made looks alot bigger in the pics than it really is, i originally bought a box i seen at a craft store and covered it in material......looked good fit great on seat but was a little high. made a box like the one you see in pic and that too was too high. on my final effort i finally was able to get it right. it could probably be about half an inch to an inch higher than i have it now but im afraid if i do that shifting will be an issue. i think i used 1/4 inch plywood . i made a template outta cardboard to make the curves for the back of the seat glued and nailed it all together and covered it with that material . its the same as what you see on some subwoofer boxes. i made the front of it lower than the back . as far as height id say use your own judgement . im short so what is good for me may not work for someone taller. i can take measurments if you want. i should mention i put some foam padding on the lid before covering it to give it a nice cushion for the armrest.

The center armrest I made is a 10"x10"x10" cube of dense upholstery foam covered in canvas. It's actually perfect. Although I am a bit taller than most.

If you don't mind when you get a chance I'd like to have some dimensions or if you have any of your old figures for it. I'm only 5' 6" so it'd probably be perfect size and it looks like it goes pretty good with the interior. I'm looking for something to rest my arm on but all the aftermarkets look like a real lousy fit. Thanks.

Mine isn't secured at all. It's just the correct size to fit there perfectly and not move around too much. It's convenient to just be able to toss it in the bed when I have 2 passengers.
