I want to be, just can't justify new tires right now.

I hear that. Was tempting to do it, but I'll probably wait until I actually need new tires. Finally got my wheels swapped back to 29", the guy couldn't find a matching Maxxis, so it has a new WTB Trail Boss. Debating on throwing a Vigilante up front. Hmm..

I can't decide WHICH tanwalls I want to go with. Doesn't seem the highest touted tires come in a tanwall combo. DHF/Assegai...

    DHF does, but not Assegai.

    not enough.
no need for tanwalls during the summers here. ride one of the dry dusty trails and your walls become tan!

True. I will most likely wait until I need new ones to decide.

Should check this kid out on Dylan Stark's video...starts around 8:05. He rides harder than a lot of people I've seen. Would love to see him on a solid setup, although I'm sure he is doing just fine on his current one.

Haha, definitely. I actually messaged Dylan and he said he didn't get the kids info or anything. I reached out to the resort just for shits and giggles to see if we can start something for him.

I have some on my Fargo, but I haven't settled on a fast-rolling skinwall combo for my Spur yet. I'm definitely planning to do so once the current tires are dead.

Anyone have any real-world experience with XC/Trail 29x2.4" skinwalls?

I had the same problem looking for tan walls so I started looking at other options.

I have Teravails on my hardtail, looks like the same ones as @paleh0rse has on his Fargo in the shot above. They've been great over the year plus I've had them.

The Teravail Sparwood tires on my Fargo pictured above are only really intended for gravel and doubletrack. While I have ridden that bike on mild singletrack with those tires many times, I would definitely not recommend them for regular XC/Trail use.

Excitement! Good luck man. I've always wanted to see what the high pivots were all about...

I threw a lowball. Expecting a hard no, but we’ll see. At least it’s a starting point.

I was recently in the same decision-making boat as you...

I've been riding a Pivot Mach 5.5 for a year or so and I love it. Very similar to the Evil Calling. I wanted to have a 2nd bike, a "big hit" trail bike for park days and shuttling some other rides. I found a barely used Pivot Firebird 29 and scooped it up about a month ago (Firebird 29 is close to Evil Wreckoning). Long story short - I sold the Mach 5.5 last weekend.

The Firebird 29 climbs as well as the Mach 5.5 (maybe even better??) and absolutely slays everything on the downhills. So Much Fun! I rode one of my favorite loops back-to-back on the 2 bikes and there was just no comparison. The 5.5 is sold and I'm back to one bike. I originally considered getting a mid travel trail bike (like an Evil Following) for the days that I just wanted to pedal, but I don't think it would get much use with the Firebird sitting beside it.

These new long-travel 29ers (Wreckoning, Firebird, etc) can really do it all. I don't feel like I'm sacrificing anything in the twisty-turny-pedaly-climby areas while on the Firebird...definitely not sacrificing any fun!

    Choose wisely and enjoy!
