    So, am I understanding right that you can not simply get a tune map installed or dongle anymore? I do not want to make my own maps, I only want my Tacoma to perform as it should from the factory. I also can not justify spending 700 on software, maps, and plug.

    Anyway to get 4-5 maps similar to a pedal commander (I know the commander is for throttle response) and a usb to flash the ecu? Or is it just a pipe dream?

    You can get setup exactly the same on vF as with the old Flash Kit at nearly the same cost as before, including full and excellent tunes from OVT. Because so many folks wanted small variations in the tunes, vF just makes them editable.

    I need to give them a call or email. Is it closer to 400 for the "old" maps? I didn't see the older versions available on the website. But, if you don't know much about tuning I think it is harder to navigate the site.

    It is about $800 for the full package. You can still get the older tunes, but the 2.0 tunes are way better in most all respects. I never flashed an ECU before getting the old Flash Kit. vF is not greatly different to flash with. It uses a nearly identical Flash Tool.

    If a buddy and I wanted to split the cost of it, but we have different ECU's. What do we need to purchase? Is the full package sufficient or do we need to buy additional stuff?

    you are not looking for "old maps" or old out of date flashing stuff... you are looking for "tune packs" for vF to flash. a tune pack is all the pre-made tunes currently available for your ECU. since you don't know your ECU version yet [most likely], you buy the vF and cable package, then buy credits for the tune pack so you can buy the right tune pack after you figure out your ECU using vF. make sense? like @tonered said you can edit the files in the tune pack with vF to make it yours or leave it as-is. options...

    Can someone explain how credits are consumed? I understand I need to buy some credits and I need to buy a tune pack. But when does the credit get used?
    Does the credit allow an ECU to use the entire tune pack ? Does a credit allow an ECU to use any tune? Does a credit allow 1 ECU to use 1 tune?

    The credits Unlock individual ECU IDs to edit in vF. It unlocks that ECU ID for all tunes of that same ID.

    Waterloo Iowa, my concern would be if the battery went dead. I am assuming it would then return to original?

    I dont think the tune is written memory that would reset if the battery died

    No ..... a dead battery will not change your ECU programing. Same as it won't change the written factory "Tune"

    @Shellshock could help you out.

    As folks said, a battery disconnect is not a worry.

    The tune is written into memory. You can remove the battery all you want, its no problem.

    The only thing that would remove it is flashing another tune or if there is a TSB with an ECU update.

    You are only a few miles from me if you just want the tune flashed and dont want to buy everything to do it yourself.

    Here’s my thread with all the details
