Has anyone looked if our trucks have a speed limiter it seems like right after 97 my taco doesn't want to go any faster, I'm wondering if its the 34 inch tires that are just too heavy to go faster or if its like that stock

Looking at it I think I'm being stopped at the limiter since I have to account for a bigger tire 97 on 34's is probably close to 107 on stock

Only tuning company for 3rd gens is OVTune. I believe people have unlocked it too, esp for those who are regeared.

I was down at the bonneville salt flats last month and got right around 100 on 33s and with a roof top tent on. Had plenty of rpms left, but it wouldn't go anymore. A 4runner with me was also done right around that speed.

I've hit speed limiter in a few vehicles. I used to have a 1990 Camry, and later 2003 matrix XRS. Camry would hit 111 on flat ground, 115 if going downhill. Matrix was 138. A couple ford rangers varied by year, but 94, 97, or 98 mph on those. On all of them, I'm not sure exactly how it was done, but I'm pretty sure the ECU has the fuel injectors quit pushing fuel into the engine, because it is a distinct loss of power, and not something where it feels like it ran out of power.

Later on, in another company rig, ford transit van, it came preprogrammed to max out at 75 mph and would feel like it is losing power as I approached 75.

I believe I hit the limiter in the Tacoma at 105, but I had a brand new 2002 Jetta with the 2.0l I drove across the country. 6 lane downhill interstate in Wyoming without a car in sight for mikes and miles, it did surprisingly well at 134mph. I've hit 180+ on a few motorcycles and that's a different world of speed though. Past 150 it gets weird

I went 150 in my buddies foxbody in high school and I'm not sure I'd want to drive any faster than that outside of a track.

Fastest I've gone was 165 in my delimited c55 I had. You're right, feels really weird, esp at night. I heard on bikes at 180 it feels like a tunnel, esp since you're ducking down so low too.

Not that I condone this behavior but a buddy of mine had a 2018 Audi R8 v10+ and he ripped through the Nisqually Basin at about 180 in the middle of the night.. He sold it because he was too worried people would key his car/door ding it in parking lots etc and that seemed to bother him enough to sell it lol

It's definitely tunnel vision. You stop blinking cause you're so focused on what's ahead
