Need help finding a rocker switch for fog lights

Hey im getting ready to mount up some PIAA lights on my bull bar and dont like the switch that comes with the kit. Ive seen a switch out there that is supposedly a factory part but have yet to find out how or where to get/order it from. everyone just says it was around 14 dollars shipped to their door but not how to get it shipped to their door. If anyone has any info on this I would greatly appreciate the help.

i used this switch (toyota part #00550-35976). my local dealer had it in stock. cost me $18 after tax. it's a little steep, but i wanted something oem.

This is the switch I used for the DRL mod. Maybe you can use one for fog lights.
Parts I got from local dealer and www.toyotapart.com , they had pretty good pricing I thought but shipping will bring up the price.

 

Hey David, that switch you used. Is that just a simple two wire hookup? just wondering, Im leaning more towards that one. Was wanting something that I dont have to do a lot of splicing and tracking down other wires for. not real fond of cutting into other wires for my truck mainly bc of lack of confidence. also that will fit directly into a knockout that is already in the truck correct?

 

I used the same switch as David and it's nice because it's illuminated when the lights are ON. It's not quite a direct plug-in, you'll need to do a tiny bit of subtle filing. Also, wiring it is pretty easy, although it's got 3 contacts as it needs power to illuminate.

BTW, this was the OEM switch in my '88 Toyota. While the rounded edges aren't the same as the other current switches, the illumination is worth it to me.

that cheap factory switch is for the 1st gen tacomas, it doens't match the switches for the 2nd gens. the 2nd gen one is an oem part only right now, and online i remember seeing them for 50-60 bucks.

 

ok so I guess the main question i have left is when i get the kit in (PIAA 540 complete kit for the bull bar) will it have 3 wires goin to the switch or does anyone know. also if not if it is only a hot and a relay do i just pick up a ground somewhere else or am i just totally confused?????

 

by the way RZRob is that a yorkie wearing a helmet on your name tag??? just wondering if i might need to get my yorkie a helmet too.

 

the switches that match the factory 2nd gen that i have seen look like they have pigtail conections on the backs. i dont really know what to do with a pigtail connector and kinda liked the "cheap 1st gen switch" better because of the blade style connection. not to mention that fact taht i kinda dont want it to be the exact same thing as my regular fog light switch. for fear of confusion if my girlfriend or someone else ever gets the truck. i want it to look stock aftermarket if that makes sense??

 

Yes that's one of my wife's Bebe wearing a minature helmet. She doesn't like the helmet, but loves riding on our motorcycles or scooters.

Justin, yep basically a two wire hookup (power coming in on one prong, power going out on the other). the third prong goes to ground (i.e. the truck frame) and that makes the led status light turn on when the switch is in the "on" position.
