Problem Specifying my Truck for correct Toyota Parts - Tacoma 4x4 2006 V6

The original window sticker description: "TACOMA ACC CAB 4X4 V6 YEAR/MODEL: 2006/7554C"

I have had this truck for a couple months now and am repairing various things and have realized it is difficult sometimes to find the right parts on the Toyota page (typical dealer page). The most obvious example is that my truck has 6 lugs (important for specifying brake calipers, rotors etc) but when I "spec" the truck on any Toyota page I end up seeing the brakes and wheel parts for 5 lugs (RWD). This happens even when I put in the VIN number. Similar challenge at Auto Part stores. The truck had one previous owner and she did nothing to it. It seems like my truck is closer to a TRD but in 2006 I don't think those even existed? Can someone help me with the secret decoder ring? Sometimes there are options for Base, Pre-Runner or X-Runner. I typically use "Base" to describe the truck but this is obviously not the right answer. My best guess is that in subsequent years my type of truck got another name and I should be using that to find Gen2 parts.

It's really either 5 lug or 6 lug suspension.
5 lug is all 2wd, 6 lug can be either 4wd or 2wd.
6 lug stuff is actually easier to find from what I've seen. And some of it is slightly cheaper. X runner is just a bit of a mashup.

 

Yeah, I get it and you are right. The only problem is that in most cases (for Toyota and various auto parts data bases) they don't ask that question. They ask: year, make, engine, "which model". From there it is usually "base, pre-runner, x-runner". I usually have to play around with these different options to get to the right place.

 

Oh yes, that is fun with that era of toyota truck.for you always put in prerunner. Your truck is a prerunner with 4x4. X runner is a 5 lug with a v6, and base is usually 5 lug, however depending what website sometimes not quite.

Yup. Even with the 1st Gens I found that the 4x4 model got thrown under the "Pre-runner" label.

 

I've run into this before on the Toyota websites. Mine is a 2006 4WD TRD off road. It's obviously not a prerunner or X runner, so base? A few things to consider. They never made a 5 lug with a 4.0, so if it asks for the engine, it should bring up a 6 lug. Also, prerunner is exactly the same as 4WD except for the frame, transmission, and 4WD components, so when in doubt for things not related to 4WD, confirm part numbers on a prerunner.

Someone here had posted this earlier and it is super helpful. You can enter VIN and it will give you the model and frame number.
