Installing a rear infant carseat in the middle seat of a doublecab?

I got me a Taco and I'm lovin' it but I'm faced with a challenge that I need some help with. It's related to baby infant seats. I need it to be installed in the middle of the double cab but I am not sure if I did it correctly. Does anyone else have experience installing a rear infant carseat in the middle seat in a doublecab?

I'm not sure if I need some extra belt/buckles or not. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks y'all.

I know around here, in SC. the local fire deparartment will help you with the install of baby seats. They are generally very happy to do so.

 

Yep, took mine by a fire station. They made a rookie install it and made sure he did it correctly.

Meh, I dont know if you need the fireman to install it, but I know they do have events where they'll check them. Just read the instructions that came with it. My infant seat has a base it snaps into, and you install that using the seatbelt, pretty simple to do

 

Let me find the one we got. It's snug, but it works. There should actually be more room in the middle I would think. Just pull as hard as you can on the straps until the seat literally does not wobble back and forth.

Yep, should have a proper angle gauge on the seat, get that good while truck is level, and get it snug. If you can put your weight on it with a knee or something while you pull, all the better.

I literally had to crawl in the cab and kneel on it with my 220lb frame which really helped. Really, just make sure it's in the area of being level and it's tight tight tight.

 

I am not sure if there are the car seat anchors in the middle, but use those. You can try the seat belt through the middle, but I've not found that to work.

 

ok I should've clarified, definitely many different models of car seats. This is the one in question:

I didn't see any anchor straps, so what I did was I used the middle belt to fasten it, the one where you pull it all the way out till you hear a click.

Then I used the anchor buckles that was used for the side seats, it was a bit of a stretch but it clicked on each sides. I don't think the middle seat has a click on belt buckle.

I did think about going to the fire department, but those heroes have enough on their plates right now with the fires and what not.

There are no latch anchor points in the middle of my 2017 double cab.
Same KeyFit 30 by Chico but behind pass seat using latch anchors.

 

Similar to mine, I was able to use the anchors from each side. Was good and tight.

 

Right, make sure you kneel on it to get rid of the slack when you make it tight. You don't want any wobble.

 

That should work fine. It’s a tight fit though, hope you don’t need to sit any adults back there with the seat.

 

Hope u have a second vehicle ...Tacoma is not ideal for kid transport ..really no room back there . Plus then u still have to stow strollers and other baby’s items . No offense worse choice to buy a Tacoma I would of gotten a 4 runner .

 

Yep. Child transport is not easy with Tacoma. Bed cover works good for storage or strollers / other items. We've not run into any issues yet, other than it's tight. Luckily I'm only 5'9" and my wife is 5'2" so we don't feel crammed in there. We had the same base "KeyFit 30" and it worked without issue behind the passenger seat.

As long as the middle is secure and the base does not move it will be fine. I personally would not place an infant in the middle, but if that's what you have to do, just drive safe.

 

Middle is the safest spot for infant seat. Away from airbags and side impacts.
