Bed Extender Installed Crooked by Dealer!

Dunno if this is off-topic enough or not.

I recently had my bed extender installed at the Dublin dealership when they installed my wheels. All bought and wrapped in the financing.

Anyhoo, first off DO NOT HAVE DUBLIN SERVICE DO IT FOR YOU!!! They installed it crooked, literally a half an inch high on the left side...so f-ing PISSED. And to top it off, the whole thing is too low too. Looks like crap. Then tried to give me a line of crap like "oh, it self corrects, you just push down on it..." I stopped him mid sentence and told him to LOOK and see...the brackets are totally off and you can tell by the naked eye and the extender doesnt sit flush at all! He submitted and just shrugged. So irritating.

I've installed my others on my trucks and I should have just done this one. Hope my wheels stay on.

So, my question is. Should I bother to repair it? These brackets you actually have to drill into the metal of the bed. So, I dunno about having to drill more holes. Guess I could plug them with something but it's my brand new baby

I can take some pics tomorrow to illustrate but does anyone have any ideas on how to fix or should I just leave it?

 

My thoughts, you get a quote from a private shop to have it corrected and fixed like new, bring it to the dealership and tell them thats how much it's going to cost them.

If they didn't know how to install it properly, they never should have tried...

also, scary thought. it took FIVE hours to get the wheels and bed extender done. the reason for the delay? they had to order the lug nuts because the factory ones didnt fit the new ones AND the guy had to "put them together and it takes awhile".

I mean, i can see all the screws in there but really? that long?

I had a good experience with the sales but I'm never going back there unless, like you said, i make them fix it....but I duno if i trust them!

 

I dunno when you bought the truck but you have three days in California to cancel the entire deal I believe.

 

yeah, they had to order it so i think it was the fourth day. i dont want to take the whole thing back anyways, it was too hard to find and i still love her

 

Yeah, I don't care who it is....a buddy, a dealership, etc.....nobody, and I mean nobody, will love your truck like you (the owner) will. I always try to do as much of my own work on it as I can. To someone else, it's just another task between them and lunch or what-ever, where as when I do it, I'm taking my time to hopefully do it right, as I'm gonna be the one staring at the success or failure of the modification every day.

yeah, i should have done it myself. I dont mount tires though and I figured since I bought it all through them they can install it.

oh well, any fix I'll do on my own for sure. just frustrating!

no, you do not have three days in calfornia. there is no cooling off period here when you buy a car. actually, i'd like to qualify that... there CAN BE a cooling off period - and I don't know all the rules, but there generally is IF the dealer comes to your house and you sign the papers there.

 

personally i would've made them take it back, give me a new one and i would've installed it and just moved on....

 

yeah well it was so hard to get this truck. i wanted a very particular config and they found it in santa barbara and had it shipped up here. so i dont want to wait for a new one.

this post was more of a rant and a warning about dublin toyota.

the sales experience was great though.

i did get an email from a customer satisfaction person at dublin and i told her about the major screw up and attached pics (attached here too, they dont do it justice though, you can tell even while driving and looking a back its crooked). So she had the shop foreman call me. waiting for a call back to see what they can do to appease me

 

to the pics! I would march right up there and demand to speak to the head manager and not leave until it was fixed properly.

My cunumdrum is that they drilled into the metal on the side of the truck so do I have them fix it? Seems like they will have to drill 6 more holes because not only is it crooked, on a whole the thing was installed too low So from the side and its down it sits on a downward angle.

I'll see what the shop foreman says. I may try to get some accessories out of them and fix it myself

 

I would make them fix it and repair the holes they made in the bed. if they dont, take it up with Toyota Corporate. You paid to have it installed. it should have been installed right.

 

I would demand they fix it. You have the right to be pissed off.

well, they're gonna refund me the retail price. they said i could come in and have it fixed as well but i opted for the money and i'll repair it myself.
