That stuff sells out quick here. Some fan boys always buy it out whenever it’s in stock. Then they turn around and sell it for a profit.

That’s the same engine I was looking at for the atc. The electric start is a plus because the rear tire on the trike gets in the way of the kick start. I figured another $100 or so for an exhaust and I have enough odds and ends in the spare parts bin that I could piece together a throttle and cables and whatnot.

I was never impressed with it. I got to the east coast and heard all the rave about it and tried it. Was quite disappointed. To me, it’s an over priced domestic. Tastes nearly the same as the big 3 with a slight flavor advantage but not enough to justify the price.

It fills the same role as the PBR, not great, but aggressively adequate

It's not even a good beer lol. You can order it online too and have it shipped to you within California. Some member from Texas asked me if I'd ship it to him if he paid for the beer and the shipping. He told me to keep a couple cans for myself. It was ok, but it's pretty sweet. I'd rather drink it than coors though workin outside.
Pliny is actually good though lol

Well, I don't mind spending some money, but I expect to spend as little as possible. It all depends on the bike.

BMW has the Dakar. This bike also checks a lot of boxes for me, and has a 31.5" seat height. I have short legs and need to be able to touch the ground to back up (another reason for putting the bike in the trailer backwards). I am not familiar with dual sport suspensions but I am sure my fat ass will help squish just about any of them. When I rode dirt as a younger man I fell over a lot when I stopped. I weighed a lot less then too. Once I started riding street I made sure to pick bikes that sat lower.

I can get a relatively low milage, well kept 2006 650 Dakar for under $5,500. I can go older and get a 2001 with a couple more miles for under $4k. I can get a same age, same condition, nearly same mileage KLR 650 for half that. $2k for a better than average dual sport is right up my alley.

On the higher end, I can get a brand new Suzuki DR 650S for about $7.5k or Kawasaki KLR 650 Camo for about $7k. However, I am sure I would be just as satisfied with an older, used, liquid cooled bike in good shape.

Needing to update or refresh things eventually wouldn't bother me, and a complete frame off restoration is not even outside my wheelhouse. One benefit of buying a dual sport is they need to be inspected and as long as it passes that, I am ok with it.

No matter what I choose I plan on paying cash so I am saving now. I've had monthly motorcycle payments in the past and just won't this time. I'm willing to wait as long as it takes. Maybe by then the new KLR700 or a T700 will be reasonably priced as a used model. :notsure:

for hauling a bike with the truck, it doesnt sound like you will need much out of those larger bore motors...

if you have short legs, and want a rock solid reliable bike for a lot less of an entry fee, i would consider a crf250l

Are you talking about the older F650 they called the Funduro? A friend of mine has owned several of those through the years. Be wary of the regulator/rectifier overheating. If I recall they located it under the seat for some reason and they don't get enough airflow to keep them cool. Blaine had lost 2 of those bikes when they caught fire and burned to the ground.

I have been looking at KLRs and almost sold my Sportster to buy one about a month ago. There are lots of good deals out there to be had. Plenty of bikes in the 2008-2013 years with less than 15k miles going for under $4k. Can't beat that with a stick.

I am going to get one if I get another job and the commute justifies it.

I’ve had it a few times. My friend used to work at a bar where they’d get it so he’d text me the day and time they were going to tap it. First year I didn’t wait at all, second year had to wait like 25 mins, didn’t go after that. Last year, this sandwich/craft beer shop that’s a 5 min walk from my office had it. I had stumbled upon the shop while picking up lunch at a neighboring restaurant and saw a line and looked em up. The next day they posted on IG they had a bit left so I took an early lunch, walked right in and got a pour. Right after I did line was out the door. It’s a good beer, but it’s not worth waiting for any longer than 15 mins imo

The larger bore is for hauling me :anonymous:

I could probably get by with a smaller cc bike like this off road but on hills, through rivers, and on the highway I might not be so confident.

Yea, I suppose, and I definitely appreciate all the info on quicks and cons as I can learn about. The dual sport is not anything I have ever had.
