Do 5.29 gears require Nitro gear oil over other brands? I genuinely don't know, just curious

The reason I’m opting for them specifically is because i’m seeing from a buddy of mine who has that nitro gear oil specifically, his gears were 35% much cooler at operating temperatures. I felt my diff compared to his, and My diff was really hot compared to his which felt lukewarm after pulling over for 20 mins.

Do you know what the gear oil weight is on the Nitro oil? If you're running the regular 75w90 that Toyota calls for, it might be that Nitro suggests something else for 5.29s. Might have a role in that

Gear oil is gear oil as far as I know, no matter who makes it really. Just comes down to what type and whether its synthetic or not. Unless there is some kind of special additive they include in theirs

I would imagine the best place to get it though is through their website, I know I've never seen Nitro gear oil in any store I've been to

What gear oil are you running?
    ECGS recommends Lucas non-synthetic 85W-140

If you're not running that - it might be a good place to start.
I can't imagine how many people have bought from ECGS (me included) and are running Lucas non-synthetic 85W-140 based on their recommendation with no problems at all.

Alright I might just go with that because I dont feel like waiting for this stuff to come in. Thanks bud!

Edit; I’m running the 85/140 right now from the initial gear break in. I’m 40 miles away from changing it. So i’ll scoop up that right now

also running Lucas. Based on ECGS you have to work your diff pretty damn hard to really warrant needing synthetic. I have an Amsoil dealer near me and that stuff is great but used Lucas mainly on their rec. I had Amsoil in before I swapped.

This thread is about a year and a half old and now that I’m coming up on my own 500mi breakin lube change I thought I would ask if Lucas 85-140 non synthetic is still the suggested go to for the 5.29 nitros???? Thx.

Excellent thank you. So, living in the hot southwest, and occasionally towing a 22’ 4800lb travel trailer (though not necessarily in summer), would I go with the 140 over the 90 since I don’t see consistently see very cold weather?

Sorry been using Dino with Lucas. Unless your having heating issues in the diff and dealing beating it up Lucas Dino does the trick. I’ve considering going Amsoil which I used before regeared. Lucas is easily available too.

Yep considered doing that. but so far Lucas has been working well. save the money for the Amsoil engine oil.
