Hey all, first time poster in this thread. Just a little back story, I was taught how to weld when I was 13 by an amazing man who was a mentor to me. Recently he passed away and I have the chance to purchase one of his old welders, but I have no clue what is a fair offer to present to his wife. The welder in question is an Ahp Alpha-Tig 200x; what do you guys think a fair offer would be?

How long have things been sitting??

Just how old of a machine ? Like any used machines take it for a test drive.

Unless this is just reason to give back to the wife for what her husband gave you then whatever amount you feel comfortable with

I think since I'm skeptical, I'd probably offer $250. I would have no idea where to go to find parts, so I think I would be on the lower side.

 

Unfortunately I don’t really know. All I know is that he was working at his shop about a month ago welding, but he had multiple machines so I can’t guarantee he used this one. I agree though, I think I’ll just offer a safe amount. I just really was hoping to have an idea of a an amount that wasn’t offensive to his wife.

 

That’s a good point, I’m not sure what the parts availability would look like. I’m pretty sure it’s only a couple years old and he took pretty good care of his stuff, but it’s still somewhat of risk. I figured in the 200-300 range so I’m right there with you. Thank you for your post and opinion.

 

I'd say offer her $200 and explain to her if something happens you don't know where you'd find parts. You can always come up, you can't go down

 

I think that’s good advice, I’m going to offer $200 and see where it goes. If all works out maybe I’ll be able to start posting in this thread soon!

Is there any sort of a table attachment so you can square material off?

You can press hard on the belt and it doesn’t slow the belt down?

They have a table for the side circle paper but not one for the front. I will probably try to make one for the front. If you push hard enough it stops but it takes a ton of force on 3/16. And I have something binding or I have to adjust it some more and I think it’ll even be stronger. Defiantly better than the hf one that’s for sure.

 

The belt sander is a add on that is attached to that side of any generic bench grinder!!

I recall a Sears sander model from the seventies on one side it had a flat round surface the adhesive sanding discs could be applied the other was the belt sander.

I thought I would follow up with you all, I officially got the welder that I mentioned earlier. Please excuse the dirty garage, all of these quarantine projects have it looking like a mess.

 

I’ve been wanting one of those. I really need to replace my old bench grinder that stopped working last year. Was looking at the Delta variable speed grinders so I can add the belt attachment. .
