Late last night the truck sprung a leak after some highway running. ATF leaking from the plastic cover on the bell housing and the P2757 code. Nursed it 120 miles home. The only thing I noticed is that 5th slips a bit, otherwise shifted normal.
233k miles with one full fluid swap over a year ago.
So my dilemma...do I let a shop diagnose and repair it? Swap for a salvage transmission or just unload the truck as it?
It has been good to me but is starting to nickle and dime me and the head gasket is a time bomb.
Has anyone had luck having the TCC solenoid replaced and most likely front seal?
    Time for a Tundra?

That code is for the TQ converter either not locking up, or is staying locked up.
One of the problem areas to check is line pressure. And a leak can/will cause pressure issues.

Either way, it sound like more a job than I’d want to.

I understand your situation, that heat and that many miles.
I’d be tempted to let it find a new how.
But I don’t think you’ll get much for it with the current problem it has?

    Sorry brother:fingerscrossed:

Probably a false code due to the front seal leak .

That feeling of 5th gear slipping could be the torque converter struggling to achieve lockup. I'd happily pay someone to diagnose it correctly before i dumped the truck

Drop the pan, change out the screen, add some maxlife atf along with lubegard. The head gasket is one of those things that may go. You can always pressure test the cooling system. If everything holds why waste money on another truck unless you want something else.

I wouldn't trade it in, sell it as it for whatever I could get.
My concern is having a vehicle that I am not 100% confident in anymore. Another concern is effective diagnosis and repair. Transmissions are so damn complicated.

I hear you there, I couldn’t fix the transmission myself.
(Or at least I don’t have the knowledge to do it “right”)
So I’d likely have to have someone do it for me.
Which, like you say, puts a lot of money into a truck that’s known to have HG problems.

I guess it depends on your financial situation.
If I could afford too, I’d sell it “as is” and look for another truck.

Dont drive it low on fluid as you will roast the transmission
How much fluid is leaking from the front of the bellhousing ? Does it leak more when the truck sits overnight or when the truck is moving ?
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-drain-refill-automatic-transmission.63851/

Are you planning to tackle this job yourself ?
Take transmission out , investigate the leak , fix the leak , then re-install ? Parts are cheap if its just seals

Definitely not doing this myself. Going to take it in to work and let our mechanic see if it is the seal or what.
It leaks when it's running. Several drips every 10 seconds or so.

Most likely the torque converter seal. R&R trans. Remove torque converter to inspect and replace seal if that’s all that’s leaking.

Someone (who will remain anonymous) told me that seals only go out because something is out of round....... this can't truly be the case. Seals fail from dirt and just age......

The lower line is wet but it is from oil being blown back. The whole underside of the truck is coated. Only active leak i see is when it is running, coming out from the Bell housing cover.

Mind me asking how the frame is? Was it replaced ? Asking so you don’t throw money as something that is not solid

Frame is Grrrrrrrreat! Replaced 5 or 6 years ago. Hell the body is even great. Interior is better than I would expect having 2 kids and a dog.

I second this. New trucks also means new truck payments. Just the first one is likely more than this repair will cost
