Let's be real. It's mostly because of the color matched trim pieces and the skewp. Matches the Camaro perfectly and I'm all about that red!

The other reason: Because I was originally purchasing an SR5 and this TRD Sport showed up unexpectedly on their lot after being driven 4,000 miles by someone that never paid up. Got it for the same price as the SR5 due to the extra miles on the "new" truck and called it a day. Like having the LED DRL's and the wide angle fogs too was a plus over the SR5.

72K on the taco, 52K on the Camaro. Seems a bit backwards doesn't it?

    Smtaco.jpg

Shoot, don't tell anyone but I got pegged going 110 (seems to be about where it maxes out) not long after I got it on an open stretch of road by Mr. Unmarked car. Not fun. But yeah, it'll scoot if you give it a runway.

As for the Camaro up there, well. I cannot confirm or deny that it's max speed is limited to 162 MPH and it only shifts out of 3rd at 140 MPH.

    this and that...
the last tacoma i bought before this sport was actually a 6spd trd or with 2mi on the clock. the only time i used the locker and atrac was when i bought the truck home to fool around with. i built up that truck quite a bit, but tbh up until i sold it for my superduty, never again. getting my sport was a total spontaneous move. i felt like i wanted to mod something. my hands were idle, and i was bored. i reflected on my past two tacomas and thought which one i enjoyed more: xrunner vs trd or. the xr was far and away the truck i had more fun in. toyota doesnt sell a 3rd gen xr. sport was the only logical choice. ive modded this truck pretty good since new and while the xr does hold a special place in my heart, this sport has done everything i have needed it to. that was give me that street truck factorability, be fun everytime i get behind the wheel, and break necks everytime someone sees me rolling :stirthepot:.

I wanted a MT and really needed a new vehicle at the time. My two immediate options were a sport or sr5.

Is this another veiled “you are stupid for not getting an off road or pro” thread when 99% of off road or pro owners never even use the truck to its true capability?:annoyed:

I needed a double cab and I REALLY wanted the manual transmission. This got me to the TRD Sport, TRD OD, or Pro-Bro. The Pro-Bro was 50k on the load and I laughed my ass-off at the salesman and still do. They had a SSM, DCSB MT on the lot and it came home with me.

I bought mine because it was the only access cab 4wd the dealership had on the lot.

Sport handled -VERY- well through Starbucks drive through, and I didn't think I'd need crawl control or rear locker to order a drink.

    Did I say stock?
It was the manual trans. It had been more than a few years since owning one. The only time I could drive a manual would be rental cars when traveling out of the country and even that was getting harder to find. The OR has so much stuff I would never use, I don't even need the 4 wheel drive, just wanted the manual. I do have to say I was a little concerned before delivery when reading threads like "3rd gen is worst gen", I was wondering what I had gotten into. I am very happy with my truck, no regrets.

I believe the 4cyl MT is only available as an SR5 package so it "sports" the smaller ring gear

It was only in the 2016 and 2017 SR. It got the 8.75in diff though just like the Sport.

    I drive a Miata.
last Thursday I had to pick up some things at the Home Depot to finish out some unexpected house repairs. Somewhere between the sheetrock and plywood aisles a random lunatic comes running up to me and goes "Hey! youre that Tacoma guy! Man I love that truck, how does it drive?""Hey Honey! I found the guy that drives the Tacoma I was telling you about!"

The weird part is that except for the softopper and vinyl-overlaid wheels, my truck is bone-ass stock. Some dude tracked me down in the middle of home depot to talk about a stock truck. o_O

But that's why I like the Sport. It looks good to lunatics like me. :D

Simple. I chose the Sport because it was the only way I could get an Access Cab with a manual transmission.
