I currently have a stock v6 2020 SX and I am averaging about 23mpg tank average but I am planning to put wheels and new tires on in December. To anyone who upgraded wheels and tires, how much mpg did you lose?

I went with the LT 265/75/16. Lost 1.5 mpg maybe? Hard to tell with cooler temps and winter gas.

Lots of combinations that well greatly affect outcome, wheel size, tire size, tread design, tire weight. Anything heavier will negativity impact MPGs.

I lost about 1.5 mpg going to more aggressive tires. Really regret it, to be honest. Noisier, worse ride and handling, and of course the MPG loss. Think long and hard about whether you really want/need different tires. My next set will be optimal for where I really do my driving... on paved roads.

I upgraded to BF Goodrich KO2s 285/65r18 on a 18x9 rim, also put on an ICON Stage 4 suspension with 2.5in lift in the front and 1.5in in the rear and I honestly barely noticed a difference, maybe 1 mpg at most. As long as you get a good setup and get your alignment right, you'll be ok.

I then proceeded to put a tonneau cover on my bed and re-gained that 1 mpg that i lost.

I only noticed a significant MPG lost when I put my roof, and bed rack on loaded up with gear.

Hell yeah brother! I'm supercharged with the URD kit for the 3rd gens. I'm averaging 12-15mpg fully loaded also. I agree that if you're worried about MPG, a functional truck isn't for you. These trucks are meant for fun and adventure!

When my truck was stock, I was getting 550-650kms per tank of gas (21-23mpg @ 100km/h).

after the E load 265/70r17 falken wildpeaks I’m now getting about 500-550kms per tank of gas (18-20mpg at 100km/h)

that said if I reduce my highway speed from 100km/h to 90 or 95 I can get closer to 21mpg.

I went from the stock 245/75 16 tires to a set of goodyear adventure a/t 265/70 16 on my 2020 v6 auto. Only lost a few tenths of a gal. Could have been the tire itself being an A/T tire. I was averaging around 23.5 mpg, and went to about 23.1 after swapping the tires.

I think he's in a similar situation as I am. I never tend to get pictures of my truck on the trail... I need to have someone ride shotgun and get out and constantly take pictures of myself in action :bananadance::rofl:

I got lost on my way to the mall and accidentally got covered in mud. I hate when my truck accidentally ends up deep in the mountains of West Virginia on my way to the mall.

It’s a good question, and obviously you’ll have to sort through all the useless “get a Prius/it’s a truck” responses.
Responses would be most useful if they included the model year, the starting rim type and tire spec and the observed mpg methodology over how many thousands of miles (truck cpu, fuelly, etc.) and then offered the new rim type and tire spec and the new MPG over how many thousands of miles. I haven’t changed tires yet, but if I wanted to address such a question I would want to eliminate variables. And then I’d make a table. Maybe even a chart. Here on TW you will probably end up with something more akin to sociology rather than statistics and “science, bitches!”
