    Hello TW,

I noticed last night that my driver side axle is leaking. That whole side is covered in oil so obviously the oil seal is no good. But when i grabbed the axle, it had a lot of movement back and forth. Way more than the passenger side.

I did the bushing swap last year. So my questions is:

Do these bushing fail? Has anyone ever had to replace one?

I'll take some pictures/video later today once I get home from work.

    Don't worry, I didn't drive it.

    Any info would be appreciated.

I know that there is normal movement. Mine is moving way more than that.

I've yet to hear a case where the ECGS bushing failed. I'd start with the seals. When you do that, it may not hurt to snap and post a pic of the bushing installed. I think it's possible to push it in too far, but I'm not 100% of the repurcussions of that.

Yea, I ordered a new seal and bushing just in case. I'll be getting into it this weekend. I'll take pictures of everything.

I had my uncle who's a mechanic come over and check it out as well and when he checked the axle play he said it was moving way too much too. I even checked the passenger side as reference and it was a noticeable difference. There was a knocking sound as well Monday night when I was driving home.

I kind of doubt it. Mine has been in for over 40K miles and almost 4 years.

what the video shows is axial movement to which the bushing doesnt really control. how is the radial movement/play with your axle

Im betting that OP's front axle was chewed up by original needle bearing and was reused with the new ecgs busing which then chewed up the bushing.

How worn out would it have been to do that? When I replaced mine, engaging in 4-Hi didnt make the vibration go away and it rattled so loud when I hit big bumps I had replaced radiator bushings and body mounts because it was such a deep rumble/rattle I didn't think it was the axle shaft. The shaft itself appeared to be in good shape, but at least now I'll have an idea of any ECGS issues I may run into in the future. I replaced it 15k miles ago, so far-so good.

I’m waiting on the video as well.
Way more in and out, that makes me wonder if the axle is fully seated?
Lots of guys also have reported leaks if the seal is driven in too far. “Just past flush” seems to be the spot.

If axle is moving laterally in and out the c-clip could be gone.

Is it possible the OP has a non OEM axle in his truck that is a little thinner than stock and the ECGS bushing and/or seal is allowing the extra play and leak? It sure looks like the non OEM axles are a little thinner and weaker than stock based on the pictures I've seen of failed aftermarket axles that snap a lot easier than stock.

Over 170,000 on mine and no issues. Not to say it can’t happen, it’s just not common.

All speculation until OP diagnosis it. But even if it did fail, well...so did the OEM bearing for everyone at some point. So if these somehow fail as well, it's really no different than having to change any other part every 10 years.
