I was more saying contact them to let them know about the issue so they can correct it. If no one contacts the manufacturer to let them know about a defect they may not be able to correct it for future purchasers. It looks like someone else did contact them but I would still shoot them a message.

i really want to like the product and would love to have one of the new panels but just can't after my personal experience. Quality just wasn't there for the price. I messaged them in May when i had the issue with mine and never received a response.

I got one a few months ago. I just inserted 1 screw at time with a few turns each. After they were all in, I then tighten them 1 at a time, alternating the screws on opposite sides. Initially the holes didn’t line up just right, but just inserting the screws one at a time and alternating sides, the screws helped square it up and the holes lined up.

Yeah I had several issues with mine and emailed them several times but nobody ever got back to me.

I would avoid this company like the plague. There are other alternatives that also come with customer service. Something Mountain Hatch knows nothing about.

Yeah I agree. Probably a design patent, most likely including their logo. There may be an outside chance they could get a utility patent for a tailgate panel that is made out of food grade plastic for use as a cutting board, but they would probably have to fight USPTO for that.

Any reviews of the PAKRAK panel? I'd be interested to know if its lighter and a better fit.

I don't think stamping "Patent Pending" on anything is against the law.
I put a sign on my fence that said "Beware of Dog". I don't have a dog. LMAO
Lawyers are expensive and so are patents. I've done many patent drawings (about 50) and never seen a patent issued. Never.

OH, and does anyone actually use these things for their intended use? After dragging my old ass across that tail gate a thousand times, I don't know if I would cut up a steak on one...ahahahhahahaha

I would say it is probably lighter but I can't say for sure. Fit and finish are perfect. The coating is excellent and the holes are dead on. Hit up Erick at @state48overland for the best deal on PakRax. He is a family member of the owner and of course a vendor.

It is against the law to advertise a product as patent pending if the product is not patent pending. I do use my tailgate cutting board as a cutting board on almost every camping trip. Get the dust off with some water, use a Clorox wipe, and it's ready to go.

And the fine is $500. Lawyer is $4,722.69. That's like 18 hours of work, or non work. LOL
You know I was kidding. I did six drawings for one company and they abandoned all of them within 180 days, mostly because of the expense and lack of competition. I can't imagine the clusterphuck in the tech industry. I've read about microsoft and the thousands of patents they have. Thanks.

If you mean the PakRax panel I have it. Great fit/finish and has held up well for the year I've had it. I don't know if it is lighter but neither can be very heavy.

I ordered one on the Black Friday deal for 20% off. Got it yesterday and installed last night when I got home. The holes were slightly off, and I did the same thing posted above with working around the edge and alternating tightening them down back and forth. Doing that, the last hole was much better aligned by that point.
Taped to the back of the panel was a bag with 4 10mm hex head screws. I thought they were an answer to the short screw issue some have reported but wanted to confirm that so I emailed them at about 730p CST. I got an answer in 4 minutes saying yes, they are for the 4 screws along the bottom of the panel so that the inserts are fully engaged.
Totally understand previous reports of poor service and known issue problems. Maybe that's changed at least for a sample size of 1.

The new screws that are included with the panels.

That’s strange, I didn’t receive any extra screws and I ordered mine on Black Friday as well, same orange color too. As for the holes lining up mine were really close, like so close that I was able to screw in the factory bolts at a slight angle on only two of the holes, the rest were dead on. I got mine mostly to comfortably sit on the tailgate and crawling up in on hands and knees is a pain with those ribs on the oem

That is odd. Shoot an email and ask, hopefully they are as responsive to you as they were to me. I want to say the screws are about 1.5" long, 10mm hex head with flange.
ETA: I almost missed them. It was getting dark and kind of cold, starting to rain, so I was in a bit of a hurry. I didn't even see or notice the bag on there until I was putting it in, and had to reach underneath to maneuver it into position and I felt the bag taped on there. So maybe check your packaging and make sure it wasn't in there. It had two pieces of tape but only one was actually holding it on there.

Actually the bored through cylinder was patented by a fellow named Rollin White in 1858 as part of an otherwise unworkable revolver design. White tried to sell the patent to Colt but he was being a cheap ass and wouldn't spend the money. Smith and Wesson agreed to buy the patent rights, but as part of the agreement, White had to defend them against those trying to violate the patent. That is why S&W had revolvers with bored out cylinders and self contained ammunition as early as 1859 and Colt was still producing cap and ball revolvers as late as the early 1870's. Colt didn't produce a revolver that was designed from the beginning to use self contained ammunition (I'm not talking about the various open top conversions) until they came out with their Model 1873 Single Action Army for the US government when the Rollin White patent expired.
