There were times when I had to remind myself I was doing this because it's fun. Doing a backcountry tailwheel course right now that's sometimes frustrating as all the low speed/low altitude slipping is so different than most of my flying that at times it's hard to feel comfortable doing it. The PA-18 is a blast though. Early 2021 I'll get the seaplane rating. Trying to keep it fun.

Did yall hear about the C17 that landed in Kandahar, Afgh with nose gear still up.

Crazy. Nothing crazy like that happened when i was in Kuwait. But did see a sweet DC3 take off.

There may or may not have been a helo training flight in the early 90s my dad was a part of that resulted in declaring an emergency with the nearest divert being a now defunct helipad at Disney World.

Is that what caused that Disney helipad to be defunct? :bananadance::rofl::dancingbacon:

That’s a great shot. I saw that helo buzzing around this week, didn’t realize they were also shooting. This is 2L too, kinda cool, they don’t get to rip out of here reverse very often.

Noisy. I had a USAF pilot tell me that "they're so loud you can't hear yourself screaming before you crash."

It was obviously his favorite joke.

Those specific MV-22s are my least favorite. Because every once in a while, they'd be parked on the staging pads at JBAB during presidential airlift ops and they'd shut the road down that runs from the back gate to my office. No warning so you'd be parked there for a while.

I was working out on the flight line here at Paine Field a few years ago when the president came to visit the Boeing factory and we had 3 of these guys land in succession for the advance party a couple days before he arrived and I can confirm how loud they are. Even where we are used to hearing planes like the 747 Dreamlifter and An-124 take off and land all day people were pouring out of the stalls to see what the hell was making all that noise. Coming in with the rotors at 45* and doing a nice slow touch down they made their presence known.

years ago when a previous president visited San Diego and landed at North Island, the Marine 60's were using our hangar before the event. Got to sit inside of it (no photos allowed) which was pretty cool TBH. Happened to be on duty the day he flew in and had to stand my watch with Secret Service sitting next to me during the time he was on the ground.
