Just a big FYI for anyone wanting to run 7100’s in this kit. You’ll need at least 3 - 1/2” washers to prevent the shock from moving side to side in the upper mount. The eye mounts on these 7100’s are apparently thinner than all the big dogs like King & Fox. 2 washers wasn’t enough & adding washers here isn’t terribly fun. A better solution exists with using a properly sized bushing spacer but I’m just doing this for now. Ballin on a budget was my main reason for grabbing Bilsteins over fox or kings. FWIW I have about 5.75” of shaft showing at ride height for these 14” short body 7100’s.

    Lots...
Well, many many years passed before I finally ordered this & can become a member of this "select group"
Thanks @JLee for the black friday in october discount!

You guys that have a lot more experience on these bad boys, maybe you can help me decide on the shocks, cause I'm still trying to figure out if I can fit some Kings 2.5 x 14"... (yeah, I've been doing my homework) and I know that the 2.5 fit with little clearance, but its possible... But haven't quite figured out about the 14"

I have Dakars with AAL, also ordered the 4xInnovation Shackle Flip kit (this is why I thing the 14" might fit without any major issue)...

    Thanks in advance!!!

Pretty rad travel with this kit & some humble 7100’s. Thanks for the very affordable priced kit, BAMF !!!

Are you running wheel spacers with the 7100?

You could maybe squeeze a short body 14” in there but a normal one, no way. This relocate just doesn’t get the top of the shock quite high enough.

You're not going to get 14" of travel out of a Dakar pack anyway. 12" is about the limit with the OEM geometry.

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the ones that @singletrack_ftw uses in these pictures Short body 14" Bilstein 7100's?

Yep. So depending on the specs of a short body 14” it would work but I’m sure not all are created equal.

Would a 2.5 12” Fox shock work? Only been seeing Kings being used.

I'm still debating on whether or not to go with a Bilstein 12 inch 7100 or an accutune King 12 inch. obviously there is a huge price difference, but I do like the aspect of the king shock being able to be dialed in for on road driving rather than just off-road. Can the 7100 be adjusted as well?

Accutune will also send you the shocks with a custom tune just for you and your truck. If you have the means, I would go that route.

well that just made my decision easy. The only issue is going to be the aspect of protecting a King shock from the viciousness of New England winters and road salt.

I’m currently waiting on new rear shocks from accutune. Covid stopped production for a bit so there’s a 10 week lead time on them. As far as protection, I think some fluid film would do the trick well. You can also get those plastic shields from fox to help protect the shaft itself from stuff getting kicked on it.

Will work, and will actually get you 14" of travel are two different questions. If you've got a set of 14" short bodies kicking around they can fit, but your leaf pack is still only going to cycle ~12"

If your buying shocks not much reason to buy a longer one than needed, unless a) a spring upgrade is in your future or b) you're getting a good deal.

By using the shortest shock (compressed length) possible you get the lower shock tabs up higher and pick up ground clearance. So short body 12" shocks would be best.
