I'm at 109 kmiles and change. I believe the truck has original coolant.

So, to make this task a little easier.
Would it be best to place the front on jackstands, remove front wheels and splash guards?
Is there a way to drain the heater core?

I'm thinking of doing the drain the radiator and refill, and then repeat in a week. It seems easier. But as someone else just asked, I'd need 6 gallons then??

One radiator only drain is about 3/4 gal.

I would recommend getting 2 gallons. Yes, it's probably 3/4-1gal on a simple drain and refill. If you need more for some reason, you have it on hand. If not, put it on the shelf and swap another gallon during your next oil change or whatever.

What Chris said above is a good plan. When I did mine this past summer I bought 1 gal, did 1 drain and fill and 2 weeks later removed a little more and added the remainder of the left over gal. It’s easy to do.

Next summer I will do it again with another gal. probably And that will be it for another 5 yrs.

In my experience the passenger valve will drain maybe 3/4 gallon, the drivers side much less; Maybe not even a quart (hardy seems worth the pain in the ass it is to open it)
This assumes you’ve drained the radiator 1st, passenger side 2nd drivers 3rd.
Believe this procedure will drain close to 2 gallons, and 2 new gallons will be enough to to refill.

I know this is an old thread. But I just bought an older truck with some mystery coolant in it and would love to avoid doing a full flush service. Any idea ballpark wise how much flush your getting doing it your way?
