If you go to Home Depot and they want to give you trouble, simply state you just want the blank cut and you don't need any electronics touched. The blank they need to scan on their wall is #35 for the machine, you'll get to keep this uncut blank because that's how you'll pay at the register.

If the employee uses the machine correctly, there won't be an issue with your key working.

The cheapo blade lines up perfectly with the MESO set screw. No modification needed to the set screw channel.

My cheapo blade key was about 1mm longer than the MESO one, which was barely hitting the bottom of the MESO groove when in the closed position. I did a few passes of the cheapo blade across a file until it fit. Tested the key in the ignition after each file pass to ensure that it still worked. Take your time. Keep test fitting. Good luck!

I didn’t have any issues with my buttons getting activated, and all 3 buttons felt clicky and snappy, so I was fortunate in that sense.
However, I had a similar issue when I was reloading the flipkey with the spring and cap. I did the same thing and watched Meso’s re assembly video few times before I attempted to do it. First few times, it didn’t seem like it was winding at all. Then few more tries later, the spring jammed up and popped out crooked. I don’t think it’s salvageable at this point, but @MESO was kind enough to send a replacement today. So I would shoot him a PM.
Now I’m a little bit nervous with reinstalling. Hopefully it was just a one off issue

I really try, but considering I’ve shipped out close to 2,000 of these..there aren’t too many. I’d say ~1% or so which is within human error. Regardless, just send me a ticket at the bottom of my website and I’ll get it all taken care of:thumbsup:

I totally understand. It’s a balance of ramping up production while maintaining QC while getting them out in a timely fashion. It’s the next level of growing pains, but I always stand behind my product. In the end every customer will get taken care of. Even if it means a supplement shipment which I take care of.

Christmas came early today! Post office delayed my fob a day so I got the fob today... the same day my Pro got some new shoes (285/75R16).

I was able to use the blade from my cheapo flip key as a direct swap. No modifications at all. Also, after some fandangling, I was able to put the two halves together without trimming the button contacts. Oddly enough, the biggest issue I had was with the TRD insert as one of the pins was a little too big. I’ll post a review here soon but in a nutshell, aside from some small quality control issues, this fob is hands down the best one on the market for our Tacoma’s/Tundras. Thanks, Meso!

Got my FlipFob a few days ago!! Took the OEM fob apart last night, carved out the transponder and put everything together, no real issues apart from a little adjustment needed for the buttons. Took the assembled FlipFob to a locksmith today with the OEM key from the old fob but they couldn't get the FlipFob to sit properly in their key cutting machine so had to take it apart for them so they could cut the key, took 2 minutes, cost me $4...did a quick re-assembly out in the parking lot (thanks for the assembly and spring video instructions Meso!) and it works perfectly! All in all, a very worthwhile purchase, the FlipFob is worth every penny, thanks Meso, great work on this, worth waiting for.

Their description makes it sound like they are selling real internals and transponder in knockoff cases. But I’m a little skeptical, that’s why I was wondering if anyone had first hand experience.

This is what their website states:

OEM Electronic by NorthCoast — High Quality Re-Cased OEM Electronics”

Just buy a used oem key. Throw the key blade away and keep the oem electronics and transponder.

So, I ended up destroying my transponder chip during removal (or at least I think its toast...)

Any suggestions on best next step? I was thinking about having the dealer program me the cheapest spare that they have, or, trying to source just the "H" transponder chip and installing that into the MESO fob and getting that programmed if the dealer would even do it.

Are you sure it doesn't work? If you can get your broken key and just hold the chip near the ignition switch... if the engine turns over, it means it still works. If the engine doesn't, it's probably toast.

Otherwise, unless you purchase/acquire the Toyota techstream software, a laptop, and an ODB to USB cable, you can then try to program a transponder on your own. This is a very costly and complex way to do it if you don't already have the bits for this approach.

The dealership is probably your best bet at this point if your transponder is toast.
