Remote start?

Where can i find one? is it easy to install?

 

I find the best places are local car audio and accessory shops. Here in Canada anywhere that sells anything for cars will sell them but I don't know about your area. You could always buy one online.

They are by no means a plug and play install. Depending on what features you have you are looking at tapping into about 20 different vehicle circuits, running your wires neatly to the control module, finding a place to secure the module under the dash, and then programming the unit (that's the easy part). If you are comfortable soldering and you have a good understanding of 12 volt electronics it is a great project that will save you about $200 on the install. One note is that 1st gens don't have any anti-theft transponders built into the keys which makes the install much easier than in newer models.

I'de be afraid of deploying the air bag, too many wires for me.

 

i have a viper remote lock system and on the remote it has an auxilary button so i guess i can program it to do anything?

 

All airbag wiring connectors are bright yellow and the wire usually runs in yellow wire loom. As long as you never attempt to test any yellow connectors there will be no issues. Also using a digital multimeter is much safer for testing than a test light as the current flow is many times less through the multimeter.

What is the model number of your remote lock system? You won't be able to program the auxilary button to do a remote start unless the remote lock system has a starter module built in. If you want to add a remote starter you would likely remove a keyless entry system first as most all remote starters also control door locks. Usually those auxilary buttons would get connected to a relay and control something like fog lights.

This reminded me of the time I put remote start in my mothers bronco. Well the thing was she drives a standard at work. Well she came in one night and killed the bronco and left it in drive.

The next morning I hear her remotely start it. The next thing I know the bronco is in the dining room with me!

Moral of the story, make sure you don't bypass the ignition kill switch for the gear selector.
