Damn land is cheap where you fellas are. Don't think I could buy an acre for less than 40k around here.

The land I’m talking about near mine in Texas is 30-45 mins from any sign of civilization aside from max security prison units :anonymous:

Around Peoria area I think 40 ish acres with a creek through it I believe. They let one guy hunt it because he mows for them a few times a year. There is some other land near Rushville as well but I have never messed with it because there is 20 acres near Troy MO I could hunt if I wanted something closer to St Louis and for rifle I usually go to a few hundred acres near Marshfield MO.

Family also farms a couple thousand acres near new Madrid that I have really considered hunting but there is just no cover there. Maybe I will check it out this year with the long break from school. They rarely deer hunt because they are busy farming and duck hunting. He has killed one 140ish 10 a few years ago and I don’t think anything has been taken off any of the land to their knowledge since, but the land is scattered around a few miles apart. Maybe you have some suggestions being from semo

I guess I’m surprised you don’t hunt Missouri public but in semo area deer just don’t get as big and maybe across the river they are a lot better? I hunt mostly public near St. Louis when I am there because it is less a drive, but that may change this year since I got a rooftop tent.

On a different note I talked to a guy after one of my classes and turns out he hunted public land near our school in Mississippi last year but isn’t hunting it this year so he suggested a spot for me to check out. Said there was a big 10 in there he saw a few times including watching him eat acorns under a light on the walkway path he used to access it on his walk out after shooting light ended. Maybe I’ll be able to slip up on something tomorrow.

I live about 15 miles from New Madrid. There's some big deer along that river. I shot a few smaller deer years ago at #7 shute just a few miles east of New Madrid.
I started hunting Illinois 27 years ago and I've gotten so familiar with it that I don't really want to start over by hunting in Missouri. Also, it's crazy how much public there is in Illinois within an hour of my house.

Pardon my ignorance here.. there’s land to hunt on Long Island?!

I realize that is probably an annoying question (I’m from Texas and everyone assumes the entire stare is a desert and we ride horses to town)

They have some land on the river that I might have to check out and there are a few 40 acre blocks that meet up with a wooded creek and one 80 acre block of city land or something that is all crp surrounded on three sides with land I could hunt. 20 acres of water on one side for ducks and watering crops the other two sides are at fields. I’ll probably drive around and glass one night and see what I turn up then go from there.
