Being new to the 4x4 arena I may not fully understand if there are limitations. I've noticed an issue while driving slow and making a tight turn in a parking lot while in four wheel drive that when the front wheels are turned hard left the drive train seems to bind up and the the truck wants to stop. I have to back up and straighten the front tires to get things to free up. After that when I disengage four wheel drive it makes a louder than normal clunk. Is this normal? Is something wrong or am I doing something I shouldn't be doing?

Don't do that anymore! You ARE binding up the drivetrain. Only use 4WD in slippery situations. Turn off when you need to make a tight turn. Read the manual on this also. Good luck with the truck. :)

You shouldn’t be using 4wd in a parking lot unless it’s covered in snow or dirt or mud . What your doing is going to ruin and break stuff . 4wd on pavement is a no no ! It should only be used in slippery situations (ie in dirt , mud , snow & rocks) don’t use it in the rain either

The front and rear tires need to be able “slip” and they can’t on solid pavement. Especially when turning

Thanks Sorry, I'm new. Will check the manual! It was a wet parking lot but not wet enough.

Read it front to back. There's things about the truck you don't realize it had or can do and it's all in the manual. But since you're in CT read up on the 4WD section

My buddy uses his 4wd on a paved boat ramp backing his boat in the water but that is only for a few feet and he’s going in reverse but straight

I used mine in the rain. I just turned it off when I knew I was going to make a slow turn. I had a 98 though with no traction control so it was spinning wheels even in 2nd gear start.

A boat ramp is slick enough to be OK. Especially in a straight line. Shift out of 4X4 as soon as on dry pavement.

As a general rule that isn't a good idea either. If you're having trouble getting moving on an incline OK. But only for a short distance. Driving on wet pavement all the time is going to cause more harm than good

It's was 99% straight line driving around town and shift on the fly so I got used to it.

yea he uses it backing the boat into the water while the rear tires are in the water , disengages it after the rear tires are out of the water
