Hello, kind of a random question and not trying to sound dumb at all!!
I have a Tacoma that the VIN registers to the US but i bought it in Canada and the odometer is in kms.
My question is when there is a recall but only in the US does my truck qualify? And if there is a recall in Canada my truck VIN does not register on the Canadian sites so would i still qualify? Or when a recall is out does it apply to any owner regardless of the Country. I have just read some stuff where people wonder what Canada will do or vice versa, which just leaves me curious.

What do you mean by registered to the U.S.? The vin indicates that it was built in the US?

Both of my Tacomas were built in Texas and purchased in Canada. I have had no issues with recalls.

    Maybe check this site? https://www.toyota.ca/toyota/en/owners/recalls

She has a truck that was sold originally in the US and then imported into Canada second hand. That puts the truck into no mans land when it comes to frame recalls and stuff like that.

Then why is the odo in kMs? Sounds like the truck was a Canadian model, which would have been built in the US.

US sold trucks have miles on the odo.

I am not sure. Someone told me that they probably changed it when it was brought here. When i type in the VIN on a canadian site it says invalid and says please enter Canadian VIN. I had found another site that i am guessing is American and it will accept the VIN and from what i gather some of the recalls i have read about on there do not say it on the recalls in Canada. But I very well could be mistaken.

Would this apply in the op's case?
    https://www.autoimportusa.com/import_auto_to_canada-required_recall_letter.html

Edit: Realizing that you're probably more curious about future recalls but there should be none outstanding.

    https://tc.canada.ca/en/road-transp...rting-vehicles-purchased-united-states-canada

Who confirms that a vehicle was successfully modified to meet Canadian Standards?

The Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV), under contract with Transport Canada.

How does the Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV) monitor compliance?

An importer must confirm that the vehicle has no outstanding recalls and submit proof to the RIV before importation. The importer should also confirm that the vehicle is unmodified from its original assembly. Then, once in Canada, after paying the RIV fee, the RIV will tell the importer to present the vehicle for a final federal standards inspection. The importer must make any modifications needed to bring U.S. vehicles into compliance with Canadian requirements such as daytime running lamps, immobilizers, bilingual and metric labeling etc., before the final federal standards inspection.

My Taco was originally sold new in Canada. I bought it after it was imported to the US. The speedo was changed to MPH as part of the import process. I had to take it to a Canadian dealer for the frame inspection and replacement approval. My new frame is waiting for me in Canada, but customs won’t let me drive across the border due to the covid stuff.

I’m guessing you have the opposite situation and would need to go to a US dealer for recalls or WEP.

I can second this. My truck was originally from Canada. Something happened to where it ended up here in the states. I went to a dealer here to have some work done and they pointed out the frame recall. Sadly, I'm out of time on that but I would've had to go to Canada to get the work done. However, there is an open recall still for my rear leaf springs and Toyota Canada said any dealer in North America should be able to do it. I guess it depends on the severity of what needs to be done.
