Subbed to this thread. I backpack, car camp and now will be truck camping. I've always been curious as to what gear others are using, how I learned what to buy over the years.

Even though I'll be truck camping and can haul a mess of gear, I'll stick to my light weight backpacking roots. I plan to practice what I learned backpacking and will keep my truck light and agile while overlanding. 20200906_184701.jpg

I’m thinking of using these cat quilts as seat covers when my dog is going on a road trip with us. Might be her dog bedding (7 month old chocolate lab) since she has killed 3 beds so far.

btw: I’m a seasonal NPS Ranger and have worked back country at Yellowstone and a few other parks. Now I’m front country and home for dinner every night. Now I just camp 30+ days a year

Barracks thermostats are set to 85° at Campbell already. People are losing their minds. That along with the NS NCOs that are getting locked up for domestic abuse that place is a giant moldy fire.

    .
I saw these at my local Costco, which might be an option if you want to see them in person first. Looked like a typical moving blanket.

I have some wool blankets from Amazon that I use with the pooch that work well. They currently aren't available, but were $24 when I got them.

I have 4 WM bags .. I love my Summerlite, same color also.

413 is the best 2 burner out there. 2 full size burners. Enough room for 2 full size pans. Same generator as the 3 burner 426.
    Great find.

What did I learn from Tacoma World, today ? I learned about a military grade blanket referred to as a "woobie". I just ordered one from Amazon. Thanks.

Nice! I use mine all the time. I need more of them actually. Bushcraft USA makes a fancy one with a hood you can wear.

My favorite job before I graduated high school and joined the service was working at the one of the largest Army Navy surplus stores.
I was a gear head through and through as soon as I could start spending my own money.

Anyone have experience with waxed cotton or canvas outer layers? After reading about the first expedition parties I’ve grown fascinated by gear from our first Arctic and Antarctic explorers. (Think paraffin wax over other synthetic materials)

I'm from New Zealand - it's common to wear "oil skin" (popular in Australia as well) - i have one in my wardrobe still.

Waxed cotton or oilskin is still popular in the British Isles for motorcycling, especially commuters. Not used much in the outdoor world due to weight and maintenance. Its very bulky and heavy, will need periodic re-treatment to be effective.
