Anyone with a newer Tacoma, have you had issues with the remote connect? I set up my account, downloaded the app, got the code emailed to me, and it says to input the code via the following instructions on the touchscreen:
    “1. Select "Menu"

    2. Select "Apps"

    3. Select "Communications"

    4. Select "Remote Connect Authorization"

    5. Enter the Authorization Code”

But when I go to apps, the only two visible things are notifications and wifi? Looked all around settings, couldn’t find anything that said communications.

    Any advice?

I had the same problem. If you're signed up for safe and remote connect, the dealer should've signed you up and on the app it will tell you have the subscriptions (1-year trial) it took me a couple days after I bought mine 19Oct20. But the app was asking for the same code and telling me to go to some OneApp. But it started working after I just waited. You can press the SOS button and talk to a rep and see why yours hasn't been connected yet. Also the app should say you have the subscription already too. If you're already signed up.

Yeah, on the app it says I have one a one year subscription. It shows my truck on there and everything, but on the actual remote services portion where you turn on/unlock/lock it says activation required, and with following those steps to do so, it takes me to the OP and doesnt show communications in the app. I guess I will try and call them

Yup, same thing with me and I almost called the next day(one of the days I didn't know what else to do) then all of a sudden I checked the app again and it went from activation required card to Remote start/lock/unlock card. hope it all works out!!

...to add, I also hit the send code again button and never sent anything to my email or anywhere. So really, it just started working.

Push the SOS button, make sure to say it's not an emergency. From there you can get it set up.

Bought my first Toyota on Friday, a 2021 TRD Off-Road. Salesman helped me setup the app on my phone, but when we got to the point where it talks about the Communications App, it wasn't there. Called the Toyota 800 number on Monday morning. They told me they would flash the unit. By the time I got home from work, remote services was working. I have to hand it to them their support person was top notch.

So I just got a 2021 tacoma Sport...The remote connect is really good so far except the remote start part.....It works flawlessly from the Key fob, LOCK- LOCK - HOLD LOCK...
But from the App when i go to start it, I get a failed message.....So I try it again, failed again. My wife got the new sienna the day after I got my Taco, and she is having same issue....
This is not a fix, but it seems to work - - - - -When we got the failed message, she kept trying, and on the 3rd attempt to start it worked???
So I tried it on the Taco and the same, 3rd time was the charm. NEVER starts on first try but the 3rd time yes...WEIRD!!!

Hm mine has only failed once after sitting for quite some time. You could try contacting Toyota, they seem to be pretty good about fixing remote service issues.

On your radio, how many bars are next to "DCM"? This is the wireless services signal and depending on your location, you might have bad service (it uses AT&T).

Thanks for the heads up. The connection is good enough to work on the 3rd try...tested like 3 times on each new vehicle so it seems like more than a coincidence. I will reach out to Toyota and see what they say

The Remote Connection only works via an app on a smart phone. I don't have a smart phone (on purpose), so Remote Connection is no use to me.

You should still be able to use your key fob for remote start
Hit lock three times, holding in the button on the 3rd time... You obviously have to be within range of the key fob but it works without the app or smartphone.

Mine didn’t work either (bought my ‘21 last November). I figured since there’s no way I’m going to pay $80/year for the subscription once the 1st year is over, I may as well not even bother with it in the first place. So I never tried to activate it again.

There are differing opinions I have read on different forums regarding the key fob remote start working without a subscription to remote connect. You may have to activate the trial to get it. There are some 3-4 year old tacoma owners that say their key fob remote start using the lock lock lock method still works without subscription. Tough to know since mine is 5 days old LOL

Remote start from the fob works great. Can’t say the same for the Remote Connect. It is a novelty that is garbage. It’s always “failing to connect”.
Mine since day one has been so intermittent that even the dealership admitted that Toyota is not quite there yet with the tech and I gave up trying to use it because it was so unreliable.
    Very disappointed

FYI the remote start from the fob will still work without a subscription

The app used to fail all the time for me. Lately it has worked flawlessly. Not sure if Toyota changed something but it has been working great for a few months now.

Never had any issues. Most likely due to poor signal strength. Can’t blame Toyota for poor cell service.
