Gear shift indicator lamp

I have a toyota tacoma 1999 pre-runner. v-6, 2WD

The light bulb recently burned out and I just need to know how difficult if any is to change this light bulb? I have looked at other similar posts but my truck does not match the exact description of the newer trucks listed. I am not referring to the dash lamps but the center console indicator lamp


Truck has a center console gear shifter where the bulb is located.

I don't see this mentioned in the manual

 

i replaced mine recently. the bulb is pretty expensive at the stealership (5 bucks for a bulb that is the size of a pebble. while i did it, i took out my whole center console and replaced the cup holder grips while the console was apart.
first, i beleive there are 2 bolts in the box that you need to take out. theres also some screws on the side. then move to the front seat and you will ssee some screws there and take those out and it all will come out except for your gear shifter
i never was able to take out the gear shifter, because the 4wd shifter. BUT i found the only wire under there and twisted it and it came out. replaced it. and put it all back together. It will take about an hour.
i have an 03, but maybe you can use this as a basis

 

I replaced mine not hard to do, take the old bulb with you, if you don't go to the dealer for comparision, I found one at the local Menards 2 for $1.98.

thank you for your reply, I originally thought that removing the shifter was necessary to access the bulb. Now I have a better understanding and hope not to encounter any difficulties.

 

Basically, you are taking out the whole center portion. PM me if you need any assistance
