Looking for some help clarifying axles..

I have a 2011 base, 2.7, 4x4, manual transmission. Axle code A02A. From my understanding, this indicates 8", 4.10 gears, open diff.

I want to add an LSD, specifically an Eaton Truetrac (though I'm open to other suggestions).

My question relates to finding parts for my axle. Every vendor seems to list diffs for first gen, but none for second. Is there a difference somewhere that I'm missing? I was under the impression that other than early trucks (somewhere in the 80s?) a Toyota 8" was an 8".

Basically, can someone help identify what part # Truetrac (if any) will fit my axle. I'm also interested in potentially putting a Truetrac in the front as well, so if someone has that info too, that would be swell.

You should have what's known as the 8.4. It's basically still an 8" ring gear, but not the traditional Toyota 8" or the 8" that comes with the diff lock in the 1st and 2nd gens.

Your front is the 8" IFS clamshell that was put in 2nd gens starting in 2005 and is used through 3rd gens today.

I believe all of this is correct for your truck, but double check.

I've seen someone else mention their name, so they must be doing something right. I'll give them a ring.

This makes a lot more sense. Thank you!

So my questions regarding the rear have been answered, though I'm still lost on the front.

I've confirmed the front is the 8" IFS clamshell (not really confirmed, more it's the only option). Does anyone know of a Truetrac or other similar LSD for the front? It appears to exist for the old 8" (straight axle) front, but I'm finding nothing for the IFS. I'm assuming this means I'm SOL, but maybe someone knows of something.

I may just end up with a locker, but a LSD would be more inline with my intended uses.

Idk what magic words you googled to find that, but it sure seems like an option. Thanks!

Saw this thread. Sure looks like an interesting possibility, but probably more effort than I'm willing to put in.

Thank you, all who have given answers. Seriously appreciated! Happy Halloween!

I've seen several sites that show the 8.4 being used all the way through 2015. If it's not an 8.4, what is it?

i dont know if i would run a TrueTrac or any LSD in the front man unless you use the truck mainly off road. go with a locker up front.

8.4 LSD only available in 2005-2008 with a Sport package or add-on option. 2009-2015 non off-road have 8.4 open differential.
