It is just amazing how people treat a cell phone like it's a god. Nothing can interrupt it, whether it is shopping, signing paperwork, driving, eating, working, etc. And the worse is most calls are on speaker phone, so everyone can listen, whether they want to or not.

Ironically I was on the phone with my loaner to find out my payoff on my truck because they almost talked me into trading my truck in for a 2021. I just couldn’t get rid of my inferno quite yet since it’s discontinued color now. Only other color that sticks out to me is Army green and it hasn’t really grown on me yet and I’m not the biggest fan of the other colors

I'm just a little shocked that their solution is to brick the system. I understand the liability issue, but wouldn't it be enough to just deactivate it and document that it was done? Whatever the owner does after that, well, shouldn't matter at all.

Makes me nervous as I have the bro grill and also need to go in for the fuel recall.. guess I'm either not signing any papers or I'll have to put the old one on before I go in. Ugh such a PITA

I agree. I had no idea they would actually intentionally make something not work anymore on my truck permanently. I understand deactivating it in a way to where its reversible without having to pay $400 to replace a part. I mean maybe i was planning on putting my old grill back on?? they didnt even sit down to discuss this with me for something that seems like a major feature on my truck

Shutting off the tss is only for the tss recall, if you have already had that recall done then you will be fine. They wont just go turning things off in your truck unless prompted to by the recall.

What, you think they didn't document why they disabled it to begin with and that you signed the consent? I don't think your plan is going to work.

Yes I had that recall done already, it was kinda a joke really, they just stuck some double-sided 3m material over the top of the sensor, that was it. If I could find the material I'd like to buy some and redo it. I reused what was there when I transferred the sensor to the new grill, but it's not on as good because of the sticky. But, I'm not too worried about it. Works fine anyway

Yeah, that recall was crap. I put my pro grill on right after getting the recall done, that foam was a pain to peal off. Then I just stuck my own foam over it on the new grill.

Did you go with 3m stuff? I suppose I'm not taking it off now anyway, but it would be good to replace it eventually. Mine was sticky but I was able to peel it off and stick it back on to the new one, but you know like with tape, once it's been peeled it doesnt reattach the same so, I'm not 100% confident that iys water tight, BUT I was able to tuck in in/under the lip that's right above the sensor, so in general I think its fine, better than nothing I suppose

    Affected Component: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
    Summary
TSB: All 2018 ? 2021 model year Sequoia, Tacoma, and Tundra vehicles and All 2020 ? 2021 model year 4Runner vehicles are equipped with Pre-collision System (PCS) and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) as part of the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) package. The PCS and DRCC systems are designed to help mitigate a potential collision and maintain a pre-determined traveling distance. It is recommended to disable the PCS and DRCC systems on vehicles that have been modified (ride height, oversized wheels/tires, brush bars, etc.) in a way that potentially disrupts the functionality of these systems. Vehicle owner?s written consent is required before performing the calibration to permanently disable the PCS and DRCC systems. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to disable the PCS and DRCC systems.

Sucks that happened to you but I appreciate the heads up! Mines going in on the 9th for the fuel pump so I'll be sure to look a little harder at what ever papers they throw in front of me. Mine is lifted with the pro grille but it's been in for three services and a leaky 3rd brake light like that and they've never mentioned anything so I don't really anticipate an issue.

Thanks for the info, had no idea this was being done. Brought in my truck for the fuel pump recall right now, made sure they included my decline statement about the sensor. My tech confirmed that bricking the unit is the official workaround when dealing with lifted/modified trucks.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
But you get a cool sticker on the side of your steering column and a piece of paper in your glove box certifying you've got a badass truck. That's priceless...
