I recently did a lift, new wheels and tires. I still have spare 265 70 16 under the truck and my new tires are 285 70 17. I don’t want to buy and extra 5th 17 “ wheel for a spare so what do you guys think using the OEM 16” spare wheel with a 285 75 16 thrown on it as a spare?

With a prerunner, you’re obviously not going places where a smaller spare will get you stuck and eaten by bears. There’s only 2 reasons you NEED a matching spare.
    1. You go offroading to the limit and with a smaller spare, you might not make it out of the woods and end up getting eaten by bears.
    2. You have a ‘05-‘08 TRD sport with LSD or you have installed a LSD. Even then, in case of a flat rear, you can always put the spare on the front and move the full size tire from the front to the rear.

I have a 215/85-16 spare because it’s a bunch narrower than all the other tires and doesn’t hang down as much below my high clearance rear bumper.

Yeah I just want to be able to get to the local tire shop to replace or home to plug...I’m thinking with a 285 75 16 spare and three 285 70 17 the over diameter will match close enough not to drive in circles!

I had my '06 PreRunner for 14 years, don't know what the spare was, I never needed it.
