Just had my key cut today at the local locksmith, first attempt, he went with the assembled blank and my spare OEM key fob. Cut key was very stiff to rotate in the ignition and when trying to pull it out would not fully rotate back to remove. Mangaged to rotate it back to remove. Went back in and asked him to recut it with my cannibalized OEM key and removed the cut blank to mount in the key cutter jig. Works fine now. If I decide to take my spare back to have cut I will definitely have them make the cut off the disassembled keys.

FYI. For those who wants to re-use the old key blade vs having the dealership or locksmith cutting the new blade, be care not to grind it off too much. If it is too short, you won't be able to remove the key fob afterward.

Home Depot got ‘er done after being promptly turned away by the local hardware store. “We’ve already been sued for this, we will not cut outside keys” :jerkoff:

Depot came through for me too.

First place I went was very hesitant and said maybe they’d do it for $60 but would need to talk to the manager first. I said nope don’t bother, and then went to Home Depot where they did it for free.

Anyone ever figure out where to get a transponder chip? I somehow managed to crack mine open today during extraction and it's toast

Lowe’s did it for me. Rocky’s ace wouldn’t touch it, Lowe’s threw it in the machine, scanned a blank, threw in the flip and done deal. Didn’t charge a thing and didn’t even bring up price at all.

Sorry to hear about your Transponder chip.

I went to a local locksmith named Busy Bee. They are located throughout San Diego County...California. They charged me $5 to cut the key after I removed it with the Allen wrench. They preferred the blank removed. They were also willing to sell a separate transponder chip. This allowed me to avoid cutting my OEM key housing. They were initially reluctant to sell a separate transponder chip, but the sole employee made an "administrative decision." They programmed the chip to match my OEM transponder. I walked out with a total cost of $55, which included a 15% tip.

In summary, MESO flip key, new transponder, cut key blade, and swapped OEM electronic buttons. So, I saved my OEM key, but the electronics went into the Flip Fob.

I adjusted/filed the flip fob button and re-tention the spring.

I'm glad your local guy had one on hand, I'm calling around tomorrow hoping to get lucky and find one. If not I guess I'm ordering from China and waiting a month to get it.

Home Depot cut mine without charge, though the guy spent some time trying to scan transponders and junk, despite the fact I told him it was a #35 and I didn't need a transponder programmed. Key had a ton of burrs and really didn't like going into the ignition until I hit it hard with a steel wire brush.

Is the case flex just a fact of life? I stopped trying to open my tailgate with it since I have the remote actuator (hugely increased force required), and I could tell the case was flexing to the point that the spring retainer was likely to jump and unwind the spring.

Thanks, they are actually first on my list to call. I'm not sure if they'll have loose chips to sell or just transponder keys

I did the same, if you slightly press down on the flip button while pushing the pin back in it seems to help.

Hopefully you have better luck with your local locksmith than I did. I called them today and the guy told me they might be able to help me, but it's probably not going to happen. I'm supposed to email them and see what they can do tomorrow.
