Not a mechanic, or really even a shade tree mechanic. My electronic door locks, both switch and fob, are not unlocking. You can hear it try to unlock, but it fails to actually complete the process. When I hit the manual it works fine. So, I think it is the actuators. Before I start replacing stuff I wanted to know if this is a common issue, and how big of a pain in the ass is it?

I can build breaching charges so the work isn't a problem. Just want to figure out how much time to budget and get advice before I buy stuff.

Probably the actuator motors. The gift that keeps on giving. You can either pay $350+ for a replacement clamshell from the dealer, or you can clean the contacts and shaft on the culprit motors with 5 dollars in sandpaper and electronic cleaner.

You just have to disassemble eaCh door, remove the clamshell, then disassemble the clamshell in each door.

I’ve had to do 3 so far. It’s not complicated, just time consuming.

The #1 thing to remember is

Test the locks AND door handles BEFORE you close the door.
