Apparently that's changing for 2021. Lots of long box choices, except a goddamn manual trans:

I’m on my third sport. When I bought the latest one, I test drove an OR. I prefer the ride of the sport by a long shot. Also prefer the look, especially the color matched parts. As my only need for 4wd is during the occasional snow storm, and on the beach the sport works great for me.

Must have been an off road. I also didn’t mention that the other truck was grey, same color as my neighbors....so I didn’t even care to get a closer look at it.

Technology package. I like the looks of the scoop, I don’t like looking over the scoop. Best of all: power rear window.

I'm 90% on paved roads and the Sport has the best pavement package. To be honest, she's quite capable offroad too. Best of both worlds.

December 2018. My RAV4 was on its last leg and I needed a new vehicle. Dropped into the only Toyota dealership in town. Wanted a double cab and needed a long box. They had one 2018 Sport left on the lot. It had all the upgrade packages. Was more truck than I would have bought but got it for less than a 2019 SR5 so I got it. Glad I did. The leather seats are a breeze to keep clean. Looks good too.

Excellent point, but everyone knew the Pro was coming. It was just a matter of time. Much like the Ranger Raptor will be coming.

I did a bunch of research before my purchase, under my framework. I wanted the cheapest TRD I could find. I knew before the purchase I would most likely be doing suspension and gearing and a ton of mods. I could careless about colors or matching fenders or hood scoops. All that can easily be done after purchase at a relatively low cost. I didn't want to purchase an OR or the Pro knowing I would just be removing the suspension. The rear locker was tempting thou, not gonna lie. It just didn't make sense to me to purchase something at a premium just to remove it for something better/ more suitable to my liking.

It was the only ACLB V6 MT available within 500 miles..... The only other option me would have been a DCLB unicorn.

Enough about the fake scoop, I don't give a shit if it's fake, the fact is, it looks a lot better than the OR.
I don't off road, don't plan on going off road, will never go off road.
Can't throw a OR into a corner at 60 mph. Enough said...

But the Sport and Off Road have the same exact MSRP when configured the same, what premium is there to be saved?

Timing/ location/ demand is everything. Currently maybe the same, at the time/location of my purchase there was an easy 4-5 grand difference between the two. Also, in my case for what I was expecting, can't get away from re-gearing and as soon as you open the diffs might as well put in selectable lockers. My path was set before I purchased the truck. Re-gear and lockers, so it was an easy choice for me. That being said, the road to having it the way I want is neither cheap or easy, but so far nothing in my life has ever been. I have gotten used to it. I wish I would be happy with the factory e-locker, it would make things easier and cheaper for sure. For many it works just fine. For me, I want more and most importantly I am willing and able to put in the work to get there. Just my thoughts on the subject. For many it might be different. I hope that all tacoma owners can make their trucks work best for their own use regardless of time and effort. All that matters is how it works for you.

Right availability and inventory can be a concern in what you have to pick from and choose. If the Off Roads you were looking at were the same configuration and optioned the same as the sport then they should have been identical in price as they always have been. Sounds like they were probably just loaded down with extra options and features to push the price that high.

If the prices were the same and all the pre purchase data I found and went through lead me to believe I would not have to re-gear for larger tires and suspension upgrades I would have bought an OR with no question. It is the baseline superior truck with more Offroad capability stock form the factory, no argument there. Stock OR over the Stock Sport all day on paper.

What Psi are y’all running at? Only answer if you are still running stock wheels and tires.

    I think I’m a little low
    FL - 24 psi
    FR - 28 psi
    RL - 24 psi
    RR - 28 psi

I get a lot of tire slippage/screeching when going around sharp turns, accelerating from a stop light/sign on wet pavement, over potholes/train tracks, etc..

Those numbers do not reflect timing/ location or demand. I bought my truck used not new so miles on the truck played a role as well. My price was way lower than those numbers. I would never buy a new vehicle. What is the point you are trying to make here? Is your argument that the trucks are the same price, sure maybe now and maybe new, but not in my area when I was ready to purchase. And my framework/ data/ future mods pointed me on the path of re-gearing/suspension/mods.
