I can not speak for my Tacoma, but the wife’s 2015 GX460 has had it replaced in the recall. So far it is working as it should. As I was traveling the 4 hours to get to the dealer, about 3 hours into the trip, cruising around 45 mph in a town I have to pass through and the engine started cutting out. The rpms would drop from around 1300 to around 1000 or even as low as 500-600 and then go back up. The Lexus tech say that was caused by the fuel pump cutting out, good think the recall was getting done.

72 threads on same subject. Nobody I have read about has broke down due to fuel pump. Truly what should be the topic?:notsure:

I’m at 29K and just had mine replaced today under the recall. Never had any problems with the old one.

I just drove it to the store then home so not a whole lot of experience with it yet but, I will mention that the truck seems to be a little more responsive or peppy when I step on it now. Maybe it’s just my imagination, but I did notice it. Tomorrow I’ll take it out for a good long ride and verify.

Just for some clarity on this pump issue. The actual design is not flawed nor is the pump in the Tacoma unique. It's used in a plethora of models...including many Lexus.

This issue with them is there is a small possibility of the impeller making contact with the pump housing. If this occurs it can cause anything from a slight stumble to complete failure.

The pump design didn't really change. The only difference between the old one and new one is the clearance between the impeller and the housing.

Those who have had it replaced can rest assured that they aren't driving around as guinea pigs on some experimental component. And those who haven't had it done yet can breathe a little easier in knowing that failure is rare. That said....schedule to have it done.

It's not a particularly difficult procedure. Pull the pump assembly, remove the pump from the assembly, install new pump on to assembly, reinstall assembly with new pump back in the tank.....along with the new gasket and lock ring the kit comes with.

The only added step with the Tacoma vs a Corolla, Camry, Avalon, etc is lowering the tank. In a car you simply raise up the rear seat.

LMAO off @ those that are gripped with the fear of death over this issue.

Have you never had a flat, let alone a blowout?
    Have you never broken down?
Have you never run out of gas?
Have you ever had an emergency that didn't involve the Starbucks drive-through?

For fuck sake, no wonder they keep checking my mats at the dealership.

That's because our attention is currently focused upon torque converter temperatures that are approaching the values on the surface of the sun.

Once we achieve the goal of getting Toyota to admit the deletion of the air cooled ATF heat exchanger was nothing more than penny pinching rest assured, the fuel pump recall will undergo a scathing indictment... the likes of which will make this thread seem amicable.

Thats ok; there are at least 20 threads complaining about the same thing on the Taco side. Sadly no tsb or recall on that though. Toyota Corp has to make sure they're not overwhelming the forums with all the changes they introduce.

Out of curiosity, what are your torque conv Temps getting up to? Highest I've seen on my OR is 219F briefly. But mine snuck in there and has a factory cooler.

I personally haven't plumped for the hardware to monitor anything. Peeps that are currently expressing outrage have reported momentary TC readings up to 250°F while yanking various forms of trash attached to their hitch uphill. Persistent pan temps between 210 and 230°F, towing and unladen, are rampant.

Wow that’s hot. Mine sits around 150-170 cruising around. The TC can hit 210 briefly when towing in the mountains but the pan never gets above 190.

Yeah, they cause the hood scoop to be ineffective. There's a recall for it.

Mostly electrical shit that nobody cares about.
Okay folks, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I had my fuel pump replaced today and I'm not a happy camper.

Picked the truck up from the dealership and the cabin smelled like gas. That's alright, the tech was probably covered in it since the swap requires you to lower the entire tank and take apart the assembly.

Got home, the entire exterior still smelled like gas. A little wet around the frame, but that's probably from you know, gas being sloshed around during the repair. Right?

Cycled my accessory power a few times... Huge leak on my driveway. Pump would prime, spilling more gas on the ground.

I'm taking it back first thing tomorrow morning.

If you choose to do this recall, make sure you test for leaks before leaving the dealership. I later checked my dashcam and verified that the truck was not properly tested after performing the pump repair. Not to mention, the tech billed two instances of work... 2.8 hours for the fuel swap after which he unsuccessfully attempted to start the engine, grunted, received suggestions from others and billed another 1.4 hours for the fix.

Sounds like something went wrong and he was in a rush.

I think you should have them tow it back, so you are not in it when it goes up in flames.

so looks like we should check to make sure the gas gauge works, and that there are no leaks before we leave the stealership. And make sure the interior doesnt smell like gas, that would suck.
