Oil change done on the Acura. Shouldve trolled the 3rd genners with my choice of oil and filter.

Oreillys store brand oil and a Microguard (cheap) filter ftw.

I do feel for people who are just learning how to get into DIY work. It can be overwhelming and takes some guidance on tools to keep from spending a lot of money on the wrong things. I grew up in a family of farmers and mechanics and started working on cars at around age 10. But after I got out of school I didn't do anything with a car until my sons got to be in early teens.

Then I woke up one day and realized they will soon be driving and owning their own cars and they hadn't had any exposure to working on cars to at least be able to keep someone from pulling the wool over their eyes ripping them off on repairs later in life. So I got us a family project car that needed new timing chain guides, suspension, and injectors. The car was an Infiniti Q45. Not exactly a simple beginner's car. Though we all learned a lot from that experience about cars ECUs and a lot of subsystem control units. I bought some tools, floor jacks, and an air compressor. Surprisingly it all worked after we put it back together.

Soon our driveway on Saturdays would have their buddies over doing all kinds of work. My youngest really excelled at mechanics. It got a job doing light mechanic work at a local shop for 3 hours a day after school his Sr. year. He went back to work there during summers while in school.

We made a lot of good lifelong friends around here through our Saturday driveway car repair parties. The kids have all grown up now and are out pursuing their lifelong careers. One is in med-school. I would trust him to work on me someday. He's going to be a damn good surgeon.

I bought some of their oil one time just to add oil to our old F150. When I poured it out it was clear. I'm like WTF. This looks better than the expensive stuff.

I'll run store brand stuff with no regrets. Oil is oil as long as it has the same certification stamps as the expensive stuff.

Hey, I was going to tell you the other day, the Honda club that I was in between 2008 and 2018 had a few Honda engineers as members. Of course, there was always a running debate about oil weight and brand. The Honda guys said the 5w20 requirement is for the US due to some US environmental regulations. The rest of the world runs 5w30. I'm sure that's known in the Acura clubs as well. YMMV

The way I got into my 100 for cheap was I think the previous owner got in over his head and bailed out once he started to understand the commitment required for upkeep. It usually doesn't go well for people with domestic truck expectations to get into the LC game.

They are going on the Tacoma. I think the 100 series will be way cool with Cadillac horns.

Yeah I agree, getting into the diy side from a cold start has got to be difficult. Cars these days are closer to appliances than they've ever been are aren't very approachable. I was also fortunate to grow up with Dad who was into cars and got me started, as well as 3 uncle's and a 2 cousins that are mechanics.

It sure does teach you how to approach a problem, no surprise it would lead to competence in other areas.

5w-20 and 0w-20, now 0w-16 is all for fuel mileage. Literally the only reason modern cars use water for oil.
