This is a good idea. Unfortunately I work a 'bit' lower lever in hardware, and my Python Kung Fu is not strong.

What you describe is something like ammoseek. It's scours the internet and finds the best ammo price based on your criteria. You might be able to check out the source for this and get some ideas.

Nice! I use gunbot.net for my ammo purchases and it acts the same. Very handy tool

    Wow gunbot is fast.

This ammo thing is a bit nuts. Lead doesn't cure COVID-19, it mostly just makes a mess.

Gun/ammo panic buying started in 2007 when Obama's name came up (not even elected) and hasn't really let up since. Every time there is a new unenforceable illegal law in Cali gun sales sky rocket. I'm convinced the democrats own all the gun/ammo manufactures.

In 2003 I was paying 5 cents per round for 9mm, 2007 it was 8-9 cents, 2008 it was 18 cents and now in 2020 it's 60 cents.

I was teaching a class two weeks ago and a lady showed up that bought a nice S&W Revolver with no idea of what she was buying. Probably purchased because it's what was available. Ultimately I don't think she will keep it, because it's a bit too much for her.

I remember that too, I think 07-08 the US had some off the chart record ammo sales. Born and raised in Orange, CA and moved to FL earlier this year and I can't believe the guns/accessories options that I can buy that I wasn't able to in CA.

Is that it on top of the CA ammo background check?

I think the background check is a dollar if you are a known person.

Hey OP I can help if you need any javascript work. I pretty much just code all day (when im not browsing TW). If you're looking for chart stuff http://recharts.org/en-US/examples is great. It's a react component based library based on D3.

I've been learning Django (a web development tool that uses Python) and working on this project while also learning Django. I made some halfway decent progress today. So far is what it looks like, there's no .css so its as plain/boring as it gets as far as formatting. But I got the data to display the way I wanted by converting the dictionary of results {dealer: price} to a Pandas dataframe which I then sorted by price (you can't sort a dictionary so converting to a dataframe was necessary). The dataframe can then be easily converted to an HTML table. Also I'm choosing the part to search on the backend, so I'll need to add a form where the user can input the url of the part to price check. To make it faster while I build it out, I'm only checking a handful of dealers. There's a lot of work to do and a lot left to learn, but so far so good!

Looking good! Django is pretty fantastic once you figure it out. Pandas is incredible, but I always have to look up the syntax.

If you're looking for some quick and pretty CSS, skeleton CSS is very easy. Bootstrap is my goto for more complicated projects tho.

Yeah I almost quit Django a few times because it was difficult to learn (for me anyway), but eventfully it starts to make a little sense and when it does, its pretty amazing. But the learning curve is pretty steep, lol

I know a little bit of Pandas because I like analyzing stocks and stock market stuff with it.

Reminds me of when I was younger and wrote a simple Publisher's Clearinghouse script in Perl (gads I love that language!) that would auto-enter me daily around 8:00am with a +/- 5 minute slop (to make it look like a human just getting to work in their logs.) Their system only allowed one entry per day. Sadly, I didn't win, but it was a fun project because I had to figure out their "anti-automated" tech and bypass it, such as seeing that they send the mouse click coordinates of the entry image button so I had to send randomized values, etc.

My coworker, on the other hand, did the same thing for a Nestle or Mars contest (some candy company anyway) and just for fun put no limits on it. He slammed the servers for days, I'm sure making hundreds of millions of entries. He said he knew they would disqualify him and he didn't care since it was just for fun.

    He won.

We're sure their attorneys scoured the rules and couldn't find any text preventing "automated systems"... the four first-class plane tickets to Europe arrived a few weeks later. No letter. No congratulations. No photographers. No mention of their name or that they won anywhere. He and his family had a fabulous time over there LOL!

Can you imagine a world wherever everyone knows Perl? We'd be so doomed.

Holy chit I got it working the way I wanted it to, where you input a url for a part at a Toyota dealer and it scrapes a bunch of different dealers for the the price of that part. I'm only searching a handful of dealers currently to make it faster for testing. There's no .css so the formatting is super plain/ugly but the functionality is working. I'll sex it up with some taco pics/formatting and hopefully find a free/cheap place to host it!
