I finally got to see my SS3 sport fogs performing in the fog since I installed them in the spring. Weird weather this summer. Either way they perform great and looked good doing it to.
    Thanks @Diode Dynamics

I have more complaints about the C2 mounting @Diode Dynamics

The bracket is just off. It needs to be thicker for one and the slot is much too large for the supplied bolt.

Here you can see how much play there is in the carriage bolt. Around 1/16''!

    Yc4E-yA5TvaPLwnF8m1US1lnXo01-ZHGeOFGTeMk_d1960d13b2356bec66829d46b9758dce4304f431.jpg

On top of that, it's not thick enough so part of the square of the carriage bolt sticks out through the bottom.

    HIwoGjdEkrr00ys7oPt8DB4iUCbRR_OTv-e0YY0S_0ec2774966766615b607704bd855dba640a289a2.jpg

These two issues combine to make it well..unmountable.

If you torque down the bolt all the way, because the square pokes through too far it doesn't actually torque down on the mount. And due to there being so much play in the bolt it just flops about. Granted it would still slide around even if the square hole was the right size as they have made it a rectangle to allow some side to side adjustment.

Here is a video showing how much play there is: https://photos.app.goo.gl/v8h75ncKPhBCApZVA

Thats just shitty. Either going to have to find/use a different bolt. Make a square hole washer to fit between the bolt and bracket. Or make my own brackets.

Not sure if that's a design flaw or a QC issue but either way, not very cool.

However, easily fixable. Just tighten up the tolerances on the rectangle hole some and make it like 1mm thicker material.

I'll be sending a message directly to @Diode Dynamics as well about this.

That is pretty bad. As a short term fix, you can add a washer to the stack with an inner diameter larger than the square (in between the DD bracket and the piece you're mounting to). Simple hardware store trip (though I agree it shouldn't be on you).

Or, barring that: you can drill a larger hole in the mount to allow the shoulder to sink in, rather than sitting on top of your mount.

Once it's tightened down, that large carriage bolt head will firm up any remaining jiggle in the rectangular slot. It has a lot of surface area.

Yeah I didn't want to make a larger hole.

Washer idea isn't bad though. Could probably make that work.

I realize it'll snug down good once the bolt can be tightened but still. That is so much slack that it could almost strip out if you torque it too much.

Thanks for the feedback! Guessing there may be something slightly out of spec here, but I'll check with our team and let you know!

No problem. Hopefully you all figure out what caused it and can get it fixed. I want to get at least 2 more pairs and a single. haha

OK, got some quick answers. The fitment between rectangular slot and the square head of the bolt is intentional, to avoid any possible chance that the carriage bolt would not fit in the bracket. We have to allow for some degree of manufacturing tolerance in sheet metal parts and standard pieces of hardware, especially after considering coatings which can add thickness. The dimension of this allowance is very small, and with the carriage bolt being stainless along with the bracket, there's really no concern about it stripping out.

    upload_2020-11-2_10-34-45.jpg

For the stackup of the hardware and mounting it in your application, I suppose it depends on what you're trying to mount to. Please see the stackup in the photo below - it is very tight and secure when torqued down, with no play. Perhaps you may just need a slightly larger hole in your mounting surface?

What size hole are you recomending? I drilled a 5/16 hole which is the same as the bolt.

    Thanks for the quick answers!

@Blackdawg I didn't want to say anything until DD answered, but I have installed 2 sets now... No slop when everything is tightened. It would be very odd that it would be one single unit though. If there is a systemic issue though it's better to know than not!

Looks like they got you some answers as well.

They recommend a 3/8 inch hole. I do apologize, I see this info is not included in the mounting instructions. We will be sure to get it added!

I have already decided on SS3 Pro fogs, but seeing support like this on a forum reinforces my decision.

So... when are those black Friday deals showing up?
